People in Berlin keep claiming that this place is safe but it doesn't feel that way at all. Read through Berlin Polizeimeldungen online and see that someone is stabbed or shot or attacked with a bottle every day of the week - especially places like Gesundbrunnen, Rigaer Str., Warschauerbruecke and Panoramastrasse. Cars are set on fire several times a week, cigarette shops and casinos are robbed at gunpoint or with machetes. I'm also beginning to doubt the murder statistics about this place. There are so many weird deaths listed on that website where they say they don't believe it was murder but it just doesn't make sense. Also there doesn't seem to be anything in Germany like vehicular homicide (unless it was intentional), so anyone hit and killed by a drunk driver isn't even considered a murder. Most of the time they don't even mention this stuff on the front page of the tabloids or in the hourly news updates on the radio, unless it's particularly crass (like the nazi guy that peed on a family on the train a few years ago or the Bulgarian trash that kicked that girl down the stairs). They also seem to take a really long time to release pictures of criminals for help in identifying them. It's really sad to see that criminals here have more rights than victims (and potential victims). Finally, it's really weird that they will never release the full names of criminals here. You could be working with convicted pedophiles or murderers and you'd never be able to find out.

Waste all over the place. Smell of pis s and hobos in the air. The few dumb Germans I could see were drunk or on drugs. Pretty sure they were on their way home to do more drugs, play video games all day long and vote the leftist Green scum. Germany is lost. Every city is rotten to the core. I have often thought about moving some place else in Germany, but I often hear the phrase 'Germany is Germany', even from Germans themselves. I've had people from India, China, Russia, the US, France, Italy and Spain (and even Germany lol) tell me that this place is a dump. This seems like a very harsh generalisation but based on my experiences so far, I cannot disagree with this view.

'Filthy rapefugees, muslims and gypsies EVERYWHERE, looking for a chance to rob or rape someone.'

I don't agree with this characterisation of all refugees, gypsies and muslims as criminals looking for trouble, but I think the policy of unchecked immigration and/or open border policy is bound to create problems, and indeed that has been the case. I expect this country (and indeed my own) to help genuine refugees, but one has to question the wisdom of immigration policy over the past four or so years.

'...and vote the leftist Green scum. Germany is lost'

I totally get this. Years of brainwashing, a broken education system, and a dreadful pop culture (which was created to destroy us) have taken their toll in the west. It's perhaps more noticeable here as Germany once had a very good culture, remnants of which still remain and have benefited the nation. For Germany, and indeed western nations to survive, they must reject this green nonsense which says that humanity is inherently bad. Further, we must recapture our scientific optimism which enabled us to make scientific discoveries through reason and to get to where we are now. Last, but certainly not least, we need a revival of classical culture and education, as every human being on this planet has a right to an aesthetical education, and not to the garbage they are taught these days.

You are PATHETIC and prove the point of my post. The Germans love to criticize the politics and ongoing events in both the US and UK but fail to see the logs in their own eyes. Here in Germany you have a chancellor who was and is only concerned for her own political career. She has absolutely no compassion for the general welfare of the people and is a stooge for the neo-liberal world order (whether she knows it or not). If that wasn't bad enough, there is huge support for political outfits that are seemingly hell-bent on destroying German industry and everything else that is actually good and decent about this country. I'm talking about political groups such as the Green Party (whose membership has comprised former SS officers/admirers and paedophilia-legalisation advocates), Links, Antifa....the list goes on as Germany is not the land of eternal sanity.

Both the election of Trump and Brexit were manifestations of the rejection of the neo-liberal world order This was also seen in the election results in Italy last year and in the ongoing yellow-vest demonstrations in France. The general welfare of people can only be violated for so long. I am not a big fan of Boris Johnson and I think there needs to be a big shake up in British politics, especially if Brexit is to be carried out in the way it should. Regarding Mr Trump....I don't support everything he says and does and he may not be the ideal president, but he is sure as hell a breath of fresh air in this PC-mad world. He was elected on a platform of re-industrialising the US, restoring good relations with China and Russia, restoring the American System of economics (as envisaged/endorsed by the great Alexander Hamilton and FDR/Kennedy presidencies) and putting and end to these long and pointless wars (he needs to sack Bolton and Pompeo). Love him or hate him, I think these are laudable goals and need to be supported. If only there were a politician or academic figure in Germany with this kind of courage and vision.

In addition to this, I sometimes find it pointless to engage with PC Germans on these kinds of issues as they have made up their minds, apparently without having taken the time to fully understand. On the other hand there is a chance to put these Germans in their place, which can be too hard to resist and is also fun to watch.

It's probably hard to be a great poet or philosopher if you're afraid to have an opinion that is controversial in the slightest. Look at Thilo Sarrazin who's been attacked for the past 10 years for writing a book critical of unchecked immigration. Why's there no worthwhile art, be it film or paintings or architecture, from Germany in the past hundred years? Probably because worthwhile art requires a willingness do something different. Germans are basically machines programmed to whine about plastic waste and CO2 emissions.

'Teh Feminists are the worst'

Whilst I am in favour of women's rights and equal opportunity, I find the behaviour of feminists and their supporters objectionable.

'followed by the blind believers of global warming'

It seems that everyone in Germany is convinced that we are headed for some sort of climate catastrophe and that we are not allowed to question this. I question this theory and get treated like a leper for it, but then pursuit of truth is more important to me than popular opinion.

'Don't get me started on open-borders and the fake refugees.'

That's interesting. I have a friend from Syria who has been here for the past four years. He hates this place but he's stuck here because as he tells me 'I married a robot and had a child with a robot. I feel so stuck here in this horrible place'. He also tells me that of all the refugees that were brought into the country, only 150,000-200,000 were genuine refugees.

I know it gets thrown around a lot on the internet, but German insistence on an impending global climate disaster really seems like extreme cognitive dissonance to me. Imagine being told your entire life that you need to conserve water whenever possible. Now image that this is enforced by multiple measures (google the overpriced tap water scandal in Berlin if you aren't aware; silly low-flow toilets that ensure you'll always leave a mess and that a single flush is a fantasy; shower plumbing that is purposely designed to drain extremely slowly (dismantle your drain and see for yourself). It results in a country that uses such low volumes of water that they have to manually clean the pipes periodically because they aren't used enough (google the Zeit piece on it if you aren't aware). But even after that they continue conserving water because accepting that their quality of life has been so poor because of senseless conservation is too painful. A ride on a summer tram is enough to know without a doubt that the majority of people in this city don't shower regularly. And you can expand that to so much more: gas/car prices, an extremely inconvenient bottle deposit system, etc. It's everywhere you look. I've seen people compare German environmentalism to religious ideology and it doesn't seem to be far from the truth. It's completely accepted as gospel despite the growing evidence that it's completely blown out of proportion (arxiv.org/pdf/1907.00165.pdf). I guess it's easy to manufacture a crisis when the government owns most of the relevant television channels and radio stations.

Hi everyone,

I'm a 36 year old Aussie guy who has been living in Germany for the past five months and I'm currently based in Leipzig, Saxony. This is my second time in Germany, my first being a three week holiday in 2015 (which I actually quite enjoyed). Let's just say that my second time here hasn't been quite as enjoyable. It has been very difficult and frustrating at times and I feel like I live in a social graveyard. It's gotten to the point where I don't want to leave my room and am scared to speak the language. This is despite the fact that I practice it daily and know enough to be able to have a short conversation. This is on top of all the bureaucratic nonsense and the sheer expense of trying to get settled in a new country. I haven't spent a great deal of time in Berlin itself, but I can totally understand why so many foreigners have such a tough time in Germany. Before I came here I was a happy-go-lucky sort of a guy with an open mind about things. But I feel that my time here so far has changed me, and not for the better. I suppose not all change is good lol. I wanted to give this place time and to see if things work out but I'm seriously considering packing my stuff and going somewhere else (Poland, Czech Rep, Russia and France are possibilities.
