A BVG controller fined me (cash) and because I was stoned I paid it. He gave me the reciept and obviously I had been scammed. He was an actual controller but now I have to go pay the ticket. Just the thought of debating this with some German BVG controllers is making me procrastinate leaving the house. I'll probably have to pay the fine again but I want to report the guy for scamming. I have no evidence though.
Acquaintance of mine did the thing where they called the police. They ended up entering something in his file and it was a whole pain in the butt for him years later when he needed a clean police record for some corporate job. Worked out in the end but bureaucratic af.

Germany has a Renting culture. No wonder everything here is upside down. I've had Germans tell me "It is more flexible" sure...If you own a home you can rent it off and use the money to rent some other place or live somewhere else. How the fornicate is it flexible to rent and be at the mercy of your landlord? In the end you end up paying more in rent than what it would cost to own a home. Additionally this allows large Corporate landlords to flourish because all the German idiots want to rent their homes and not own them, it screws up the market entirely. I never understand the logic of Germans. Something that the rest of the world agrees on the Germans flip it over. Are they dumb? are they trying to be special?
Simple answer is that Germans believe any propaganda the German government tells them to and they never question anything. They're also conditioned to never think beyond first order effects. Yeah, renting is cheaper in the short term if you don't need to pay a down payment (which in Germany is traditionally higher than most other places) but silly Stefan doesn't have the brain capacity to realize that over the life of the mortgage, your monthly payments aren't going to increase, unlike if you're paying rent.
I work for a big multinational company here and there's a slack for personal finance in Germany. Recently saw some foreigner ask everyone's opinion on buying. Some paper smart Germans (let's say job title something like data scientist) jump in with "you have to ask yourself if your monthly rent is cheaper or more expensive than the mortgage would be". That is 12 year old level logic - truly idiotic.
Germany also doesn't particularly want home owners. Unlike countries that promote home ownership, Germany doesn't even allow you to deduct mortgage interest in your income tax declaration. Germany also always has higher interest rates on mortgages than any other similar country - it's why Germany itself was basically unaffected by 2007/8 aside from exposure of German banks to foreign CDSes.
Now the answer to why Germany doesn't want home ownership... The only reason I can see is highly partisan - the Leftist parties want people dependent upon government. They gain power by being the party that keeps kicking the can down the road by unconstitutionally freezing rent, capping rent increases at 15% per 3 years, threatening to seize privately owned apartment buildings, etc. which is just a leftist populist ploy to consolidate power, and we all know how responsibly Germany handles having power. At least the FDP had sensible ideas to promote private ownership (which is just a proxy measure of free time, unlike what German leftists describe it as - capitalist hedonism). But the FDP is less popular than the politically toxic AFD so we'll see public floggings of foreigners before we'll see any true reform. And besides, the FDP sucks too anyways, for a free market party they're way too Germanized and still think government should subsidize culture.
Funny thing is that I moved here when I was fully convinced that wellfare capitalism was good or at least possible. Seeing how Berlin is truly a failed state opened my eyes. About 99% of Berliners live and die without leaving behind anything for their children - no money, no home, usually not even a car. I used to think German pop philosophy (the kind the obnoxious German acquaintance spills on you over a beer) was intriguing, but then I realized it's just another flavor or the same idiotic billshit anyone else would say. Completely over this place and these people.
Why do Germans pretend education here is hard? I did a vocational training and later got a bachelors and then a masters. Education here is easy as hell. First of all, I think it is basically impossible to fail a course here since 50% is passing. Second of all, profs are massive losers here who will change your grade if you challenge them at all, especially if you are a girl.
Abitur is also a huge joke Germans like to pretend is difficult. I was studying for the external exam to skip abitur to study and the curriculum is laughable. And they actually make the external exam harder as a form of chicanery becauae Germans love 1. uniformity, 2. inflexible systems, 3. lying. Abitur is just a scam to keep foreigners from studying here.
Don't ever believe a German when they tell you any kind of education here is hard because it is not.
Also right before the EU switch to bachelor/master only, the cheating Germans changed their system so Grosses and Kleines Diplom became the same thing which artificially boosted every German with kleines Diplom to equivalency with Master.

Also vocational training here is just retarded. They expect you to be a complete imbecile and trach you literally everything you might need to know. In my store we had an SOP for the most insane,crazy scenarios that happen once in a lifetime. It's all a scam to make people experience learned helplessness, insane reinforcement of hierarchies and of course to make youth unemployment appear low.
The Ausbildung system too is ridiculous. They have it even for cashiers at lidl. I think its just a way of justifying paying people less for a year or so, and since Germans have no balls (look at pension reforms, France reaction vs Germany) they gladly take it in the butt and even excuse it.
Germans don't fight back because they know Germany is always importing more and more people from dire situations (Balkans, Syria, Ukraine) to do Ausbildungaberufe. Germans rightfully realize that soon no German will be scanning barcodes or making sandwiches at Subway. That doesn't mean that Germans are smarter or will all have white collar jobs, it just means the dumb Germans end up perpetually on the dole.

Berlin got a SERIOUS drug problem. I am not even talking about the cool people who consume multiple times a week thinking they had no addiction problem. I am talking about the level of tolerance for drugs in this City. Sure drugs are a problem everywhere but nowhere else than Berlin have I seen a dude comfortably snort cocaine on the S-Bahn, just two meters from a kid. Or snorting cocaine sitting on a bench in the park on a sunny day. These two examples happened within ONE WEEK and I don't even leave the house often. Makes me sick to my stomach how tolerated drugs are here which enables consumption anywhere at any given time and place. Effing disgusting. Let's not even Talk about politics who suggested decriminalization of hard drugs. Seriously Berlin needs to go to hellllll
