Germans whining about:

- America funding around 50% of all NATO stuff
- Germany's NATO contributions are less than agreed to, something like 1.5% GDP (agreed to amount is 2%)
- America keeping over 60k strong deterrent force in Europe...
- ... So Germany doesn't have to spend so much money on their ~120k troops in total...
- ... which means that US tax payer money is effectively going towards protecting Europe...
- ... which means Germans have more government money for education, health, 5 weeks vacations, etc.

But still they whine about US forces being transported through Germany and US bases in Germany.

I hope that the US will pull out their troops one day and force Germany to pull funds away from The German Lifestyle™ and invest in their army. Maybe then they'll appreciate the free ride theyre getting.

People in Berlin usually do not work in global companies or organisations despite living in a big city. Global-reach startups and firms hire just as many or more foreigners than Germans, and certainly the smallest share of their employees are Berliners. That's why Berliners don't know a lot about the place of Germany in the world or in Europe. They do have a lot of opinions about the world but little concrete experience of working with strangers or, poetically put in the words of Kwame Appiah, living in a world of strangers. This plays into why they are ignorant about foreign policy but also a lack of interest on the part of the German elites to popularize their opinions on foreign policy. But this might change in the next 20 years.

What is your criticism? It's absolutely noncontroversial that fiscal spending, with all other things being equal, increases the GDP. OP stated there will be an economic downturn because of refugees, and since GDP is currently the non plus ultra in economic indicators, I mention the effect.

You can question the sustainability of the refugee experiment or its effect on real growth for Germany, but you can't question indisputable fact.

Not them, but you can question anything :).

Also, I doubt that refugees are having a big impact on the financials of the city. I would expect that all the kindergeld, all the people attending university for Feminist Folk Dancing, all the afd supporters on hartz iv, all the bureaucrats, all adult-children in the their early 30s that live off their parents etc. are a much bigger burden on the city. At least the refugees are easily identifiable, they came in one big wave whereas everything I mentioned just now - this builds up over years and decades.

These people hate innovation and progress (theyre deathly afraid of drafts!), they can only refine technology that someone else has created, the whole high-tech scene here is a cargo cult - oh, lets build incubators and create meetups, then we will have innovation! Nope, all you got is Rocket Internet and their super pooping rip-offs of American companies.

yes it is like tourism will be hit especially in Berlin after the truck attack, tourism accounts for 40% of spending revenue there, if Mama Merkel raises taxes that will further depress Berlin spending and deter tourism, who wants to vacation is a hellhole, especially an expensive one? yes government spending increases GDP, but then that debt must be paid back and inflated away, if debt spending generated GDP why couldnt Syria and Afghanistan just do it to increase their GDP's???

0 of 0 people agree with this
  Anonymous wrote:

Considering the numbers in Paris, which suffered two attacks with more than 10x the casualties, have decreased only about 10% (during more than a year of an official state of emergency) I really doubt tourism in Berlin will face any serious problems. And I don't foresee taxes being raised, as the government deficit is ridiculously close to 0% of GDP. Moreover and contrary to what you've stated, the only notable changes in taxes in the short-term is that they are being lowered this year. And even if they weren't, it's unclear how most taxes would affect tourism at all.

And I'm sure you know this, but for the sake of answering your rhetoric, German 10-year bonds (unlike Syrian and Afghan bonds, which I am certain do not even exist) have an interest rate close to 0%. Even if the country increases its debt to finance refugees (or whatever other fiscal measures), it's not paying a premium to do so, especially if _any_ inflation can be achieved in the coming years.

We can still argue that other indicators that actually matter are terrible here, like median income, PPP, GINI before taxes and transfers and general standard of living.

the overall German national debt is 80% of GDP, last year due to the export boom and tourism, the budget deficit was 0, actually a surplus, much of the refugee costs get thrown back to the lander states, so 80,000 refugees in Berlin with family reunification will be 500,000 just in Berlin and 90% live off welfare, yet no higher taxes or debt???? yeah, makes sense

I don't know what to do with them - laugh or cry? It's sad to see "skin heads" that are every bit as inhuman as the PC/SJW folks, except they have different hair styles/jackets.

/Pol/ is right in one thing: the best Germans either died during the last great war or emigrated to America. The ones remaining are just drones willing to work themselves to death for some small luxury and a pointless vacation in Thailand. You take a look at pictures from WWII and you see tall, strong, handsome, masculine German men, gorgeous German ladies with nice hairstyles...you walk around Berlin or any German city of your choice nowadays and all you see are gremlins.
