Why do cashiers scan the Items extremely rapidly on supermarkets? Let me depict the situation below

You are waiting in the queue with your Items and there are couple people in front of you. Fine.

Then, only one person left before you and cashier starts scanning the Items from that customer. Customer is about to pay BUT he / she has not started to pack Items and that customer paid BUT still nothing is packed.

So, at this point immediately cashiers start scanning your Items. This creates the following scene : The previous customer is trying to pack his / her things and your Items are starting to pile on the top of his / her Items and you are also forced to rush packing your stuff

This is not specific for only one supermarket / cashier but I experienced the exact same situation many times in Germany.

I don't understand why can't they wait until the previous customer is finished with packing and then your Items can be scanned

Grocery shopping drives my crazy in this country. These cashiers are not human, just robots. Whenever I tell the customer before to take their time to pack and stop the cashier scanning my items they look at me like I’m a maniac. I always take time packing my things to and people start to get angry shouting at me. Back home I usually had a chat with the cashier while lacking and the next customer would just wait until its their turn.

Ok I just read on a forum the fast scanning is mostly Lidl and Aldi, so try REWE or Edeka for slower scanning

Lidl is the worst offender, it's like they no longer realize there is a person on the other end. Edeka is more decent. From now on I am going to take my sweet time packing up.

Guys please stop the hate on poor Lidl and Aldi staff. Most of whom aren't even German. They do so because they are tracked and need to scan a certain number of items per minute/hour and so on. Basic labour rights, work councils etc do not exist at Lidl and Aldi that's why they are so cheap and their owners are billionaires. They invented the discount supermarket and are now invading whole Europe with their inhuman labour policies. It is really not the cashiers fault this time. I get everyone is annoyed here but we should show solidarity with other victims of the horrible German system.

That system to make appointments for tests just doesn’t work. Once you register you should be able to see where appointments are available and just book one. No, you have to contact each individual pharmacy/testcenter and check whether or not they can test you. Some of them don’t reply or pick up, each asks for different information using different platforms... German efficiency at its best

Your first mistake was trying to explain how things don’t work in Germany to a German. They will never get it. Because to them it makes perfect sense, to everyone else, it does not.

I've seen a behaviour pattern here, both in Germans and expats who have been living here for a couple of years - victim mentality. They talk at great length about things they can NOT do, and complain all the time. This refers especially to professional and business matters, but can encompass their private lifes too. When you try to be helpful and dare to make suggestions they dismiss it instantly or even ask 'How I am supposed to do that?', 'How is that supposed to work?' Now this happens in other countries too. But here this mindset seems to be the norm. And it also drags down you, yes you, who tries to accomplish something in your life and make it better. It's a disease.

I do understand the "How I am supposed to do that?', 'How is that supposed to work?" in regards to nothing working as expected in Germany. Whenever I have something in my head that I want to do I find out it doesnt work as it would in a functioning country. When I talk to others and they ask me to do something I know it wont work and end up asking "How I am supposed to do that?', 'How is that supposed to work? because I know it wont work in Germany.

Honestly I don’t get why those people don’t just sell everything they have and get a job in another county and a one way ticket out. Something about this place is just complacent and masochist

Currently giving up everything to go back to your home country or another better place isn’t as easy as it seems. Moving is expensive and you might not get enough from selling your things. Also, if you don’t have someone to give you a home in your new destination you’re pretty much homeless. Finding a job that pays for your own place is difficult during normal times but with corona around it is even more of a challenge

Germans and taking criticism? LOL. I also loathe these people (like OP on Rediit above) They love the culture and country bla bla bla, No dude, you don't love the country and culture actually but you feel obligated to love this country otherwise you know you will be berated by Germans LOL

Myself has stopped giving a duck of this country couple years ago. I am aiming to leave this place after pandemic. I have been saving some money (well you know as much as I can) to support my move

Yeah and typical in the comment section the German chimes in and blamed it on the foreigner, and said it doesn’t happen. Even when the foreigner says this

“in my experience, unusual reactions like these are more common when the criticism is coming from someone who's clearly an "Ausländer" (Amis excluded somehow). Something to do with the idea that "we let you live here. just be grateful, and don't complain".

As a "person of color", I've stopped sharing all negative feedback in this country, and it has definitely improved the quality of interactions I've had.”

see just another instance of Germans hanging up on foreigners, telling them their experience is wrong and that they should not complain. Which was the OP’s original point of the post
