What's with Germans and vaccines? Starting back in 2012, they massively lobbied for 8 years to get the MMR vaccine to be mandatory for school children (and since homeschooling is strictly verboten, it's is a de facto requirement for everyone who goes through childhood in Germany). This coincided with a massive outdoor print campaign bearing the motto "Deutschland sucht den Impfpass" which encouraged people to find their vaccine passports (and at the same time encourage public acceptance of vaccine mandates). Now comes the interesting part: barely does the massive propaganda campaign end than COVID begins. And COVID is the perfect atmosphere to push through MMR as a mandatory vaccine, which they did on 1 March, 2020. Talk about perfect timing. And luckily all the good Germans dug out their vaccine passports, so it was easy to shut everything down and demand your papers, please to buy a pair of pants. Literally.
Anyway, why mandate MMR? Statistically almost no one dies of it - it used to be regarded as a joke like chicken pox. Germany would save more lives by investing in nuclear energy because air conditioning would be affordable so fewer people would die of heat (yes seriously an inexplicable number of people die of heat in Germany - there is a spike in deaths every summer). Or raising the age to buy alcohol. In fact, you'll have to search a long time to find the last year someone in Germany died of measles. Contrast that to 8k annual deaths for heat, and 60k annual deaths for alcohol poisoning.
Anyway I only see two possibilities:
1. Expose literally everyone to cancerous cells. Many vaccines are developed using cancerous cell lines. But don't worry, "The purification process removes nearly all the cell components so that only trace amounts of DNA and protein may be found in the vaccine." Quite reassuring.
2. Much more sinister, the Rubella component of the MMR is developed using WI-38, a line of cancerous FETAL cells from a human who was aborted in the 60s. The spiritual damage of implicating every person in a nation in abortion can surely not be overstated.
The weirdest part though, is that the Catholic Church, which is pretty reliably anti-abortion, came out in support of vaccines using WI-38. And which then-cardinal's office penned the most famous letter in support of this? None other than the guy who would become Pope Benedict, aka Hitler Youth Pope Ratzinger.

My company offered me overtime work and they said, It must be written contract before you are able to work overtime. I said okay, no problem. This conversation happened like 4 months ago. Germans are really smug about "recycling" here. I use quotes because it's a fake scam. I cannot count the number of times I have heard a German make up some dialogue in which they corrected a Brit or American on throwing batteries in the regular trash. It's more environmental, they say. Look it up, and the real reason it's illegal to throw batteries in the trash here is that Restmüll gets burned in fires in Germany and like one type of archaic battery contains poison. In fact, most plastic "recyclables" are also burned in fires here (because recycling plastic is a fool's errand), and Germans consider it green because the heat is used to produce electricity. Then look it up and like 60% of batteries end up getting thrown in the trash anyway, because no one actually cares and it doesn't matter anyway. But if you get caught it's a 5k EUR fine. So you have to feel like you should be collecting yet another type of trash in your shoebox apartment and taking it back to the store, or forcing Amazon to send you a prepaid box to send it back to them for recycling, as if that is a net positive. Absolutely bonkers nation. And don't even look up how bad recycled plastic water bottles are for your health, especially these 3mm thick military grade Mehrwegflaschen that you can actually see have been shaved off due to overuse and cleaning with very hot water. Just hope Jürgen didn't decide to store some Benzin in the bottler before returning it to the store for his 25c deposit because, spoiler alert, absolutely no checks are don't on any of this crap. At least it's now been a decade since Germany replaced all lead pipes transporting tap water... Well, they changed the ones leading up until it's someone's property and never mandated owners replace anything. So in a lot of places in Berlin you have Fernwärme that goes through lead pipes and the result is basically every vacant-eyed Stefan from the GDR.

This is true and very strange. I've seen it with my own eyes. Once I was going shopping and I was walking down the street. I glance across the street to the left and see a group of about 30 people all standing in a half circle. I wonder what's going on and then I see it: dead body, I am guessing the guy jumped or fell out of a window. 30 psycho Germans standing around, many with their kids, doing what Germans do best: staring.
I often think about this. Normal people try to shield their children from things like this, but Germans dive right in. In fact, Germans seem to believe robbing children of their innocence at an early age is positive.

I talked to a standup comedian travelling through Berlin once and he told me Germans liked to interact with him while on stage and they almost inevitably would basically just say the opposite of the truth to any questions he asked and they think it's hilarious. I also notice this online but also in real life. I have a colleague that likes to say random crap, often kinds of things the AFD is known for, and follow it up with "sarcasm tag" and the Germans love it.
Is this really sarcasm? He's not uncovering any deep contradictions or flaws in logic. He'll just say "too many foreigners. SARCASM TAG" and it's basically ubiquitous on Reddit. Why do they do this?
One theory I have is that this oppressive society makes it hard for people to admit their true feelings. A guy below mentioned Germans view vulnerable feelings as weakness, and that's an astute observation. Do they have to present things like this as jokes until one day it is socially acceptable and then they just drop the sarcasm Spiel? Or is it that holding your feelings inside creates massive tension so you need controlled releases periodically?
I regularly read topics on r/germany/ (Reddit) and Germans seem to be very much out of touch with reality when It comes to their culture / country.
What bugs me most is that, they treat B2 level of language proficiency is something like no brainer. With B1 level proficiency, you can get German citizenship (= EU citizenship) by the way. Additionally, If we look at the people worldwide who do work in English, the overall proficiency is most likely B1. But of course in this holly land, you can't find job with B1 proficiency because "It is not good enough for Germans / Germany"
I don't understand what they expect from Ausländers. IT people come and work, they get slap on the wrist that they don't speak German. People do get B1 level of language and get citizenship and leave, then "The Ausländers come and go without contributing our country" Healthcare people do come here to work and of course they het critisized for their language level and they do ask so many questions... etc
The best thing you can do in Germany to care of yourself and your life only. It's impossible to satisfy Germans as "Ausländer". Just try to benefit from living in Germany utmost for yourself and decide what you want to do next with your life.

Time for two difficult confessions:
1. I've been in Berlin a long, long time. Pathetic is what it is.
2. I moved here from the U.S. when I was still a teenager, so I assumed I would assimilate in Germany like the many naturalized Americans I knew growing up had done in the U.S.. I learned German to C2, I went to university here, I worked in German companies, had German friends, ate German food. I even went on a few "all inclusive" German vacations. But after years of trying, I realized you can never "become" a German. Every conversation always ends up being about America in one way or another and it's usually because of some German asking loaded questions. It used to make me mad. Then it made me sad. In fact, it really affected my confidence for a long time and I seriously thought I was the problem. Eventually I stopped caring, I try to only spend time with other non-Germans now. QoL improved immeasurably. If you're like I was, please realize you are probably not the problem. Germans are just weird and tribal, which is strange given how much they hate themselves but that's the reality.
Funny thing is that once I really started to believe it, everything started to fall into place for me. Better job. Better relationships. Even the minor annoyances in stores or on the street, what I like to call the Hysterical German Phenomenon, they almost entirely stopped happening. Rarely do these nasty middle aged German women try to boss me around anymore and on the rare occasion they so I just laugh at them. In summary, don't even try to integrate here, it makes absolutely no sense.
I'm polite and respectful with them (and everyone else, even the 13th-century Arab manlets) by default but if they act up and start being cunnnty I just laugh at them like the retarded autistic children so many of them are. But mostly they're respectful and polite too as long as they don't sense any weakness. If they do, the sadism comes out fast.
Thanks for your honesty, OP. I've been here for 12 years! Arrived while still in love and full of hope for the future. I sometimes question why I'm still here. My working theory is that I have business relationships here and that I would have to overcome inertia to move back to my home country. Last month, I barely had enough energy to get out of bed in the morning. I mostly keep myself to myself as my work allows that.
My few German friends are intelligent enough to see through the self myths that others spew (I.e. efficiency, well organised, dour is more genuine than friendly etc etc). I was down voted to oblivion on r/askagerman for daring to suggest that a fellow Brit should use facts and reality to inform Germans about current British culture instead resorting to cheap tropes about British bread being terrible compared to the Yeasty Land of Amazing Deutsch Brot in order to curry favour with his German mates. Tbh, I couldn't stand this kind of "stuff in our country is best because it's from our country" attitude in Britain either. Morons are morons no matter what it says on the passport.
I sometimes wonder if there's a country/city/town/village/hovel that would suit my personality. Probably not. As long as I get to spend a lot of time on my own, anywhere reasonable would do.

I was going to move here fall of 2003. Came for a visit and was shocked how assholey everyone was. It's public negotiation. I also agree that for the amount of tax you have to pay here (including income tax, mandatory contributions and then the ridiculous VAT basically everyone actually working pays more than 50% tax) is in no relation to public services. But this is one article that doesn't worry me.
