I posted the last comment. I left Berlin four years ago now but returned to organise shipping of my belongings back home to Australia. The level of hate in Berlin is palpable. I walked around and simply could not believed I spent eight years of my life in that town. Sure..hard to start from scratch again back in Australia. But I found Berlin even worse. You can taste the hate in the air..Its a pressure cooker that's going to implode. Leave while you can..You stay and you will go broke and you will stay broke.

In my experience Australians are too human to survive in Germany long term. Sorry to generalize, but people from countries like Germany, France, Netherlands, Nordics all seem kind of like cold blooded machines. No, not all people, but the average person here is insufferable to a degree not seen in other places. Probably has something to do with the insanely high population density here couple with very, very small homes and flats and chronically overburdened infrastructure of all sorts.

Yes, thinking about having to stay here stuck inside of a tiny apartment with paper thing walls for another 6-18 months is driving me crazy. Just the thought of my foreseeable future being in this overcrowded cesspit makes me depressed and borderline suicidal. I wish I'd left last year like I knew deep down I should have done.
What's weird to me is that most East Germans don't know AT ALL the extent to which the GDR was a horrible police state. I've never spoken to an East German who had any idea how many people were killed for trying to cross, how many lives were ruined by a state-run press and a secret police force that routinely ruined people through Zersetzung. Hearing East Germans revel in their Ostalgie makes me sick to my stomach.

Yes, I know just how you feel, I was the same when I first started feeling BerlinPhobia, I thought "it can't be all of them, it must be me", luckily I found BerlinHater a few years after that, and realised that it's not me, it's this commie stink-hole, full of lefties who leech off the state, AntiFa thugs, pseudo intellectuals, isolationists, drug addicts, party-addicts, alcoholics and just plain rude, suspicious, ungenerous people with no social graces and nothing positive to say.
When I first went to Berlin, I was positive of mind, optimistic, creative, full of material and spiritual generosity, adventuress and full of love for life.
The worst day of my life was when I woke up one day and realised I'd become just like them, it was a nightmarish realisation that sent me into the depth of despair, until the day I decided to sell up and move, once I made this a definite decision, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders, I saw some light at the end of the tunnel, but I was quite apprehensive because I wasn't sure of how life will be in a more civilised city, I hadn't lived anywhere else, permanently, for 9 years, but within one week of leaving Berlin, I was 80% back to my real self again. Now after one year I'm 100% back and loving it, I feel like I'm paradise yesterday, three people said hello, etc for no reason, just to be friendly. I haven't seen one person piissing or pooping in the street, I haven' even seen people spitting. No scavengers looking for bottles to earn enough to survive on and support their alcohol and drug habits, only the odd beggar, but no army of them.
I feel secure because I know my friends have my back, a feeling I never had in Berlin.
So stop saying "it must be me, it can't be this whole city". If Berlin was a person, it would a schizoid, depressed, anxious, psychopathic mental midget.
GET OUT OF THERE, NOW. I said NOW, you shouldn't even be ready the rest of this, pack your bags and escape from the lunatic asylum, NOW, just run as fast as you can. Why's there no debate in Germany about number of available hospital beds, number of ventilators? Why are there no drug trials here for anti-viral medications? Why's there barely a peep on the availability of masks, hand disinfectant and protective gear for medical personnel? In other countries that is almost all that is talked about in the media and if you dig a little you'll see that Germany is suffering from the same strain in all of these areas that most other countries are facing (just as an example, lookup the amount of ventilators available in Germany, after emergency measures, compared to what's available in the US). I have become thoroughly convinced that Germany's image as being methodical and prepared is just the result of a class of journalists who are nothing more than toothless lapdogs. Germany is really good and controlling the flow of information and absolutely nothing more.
Germans are not methodical; they are tedious and unimaginative. Germans are not prepared, they are just resistant to change. Rather than prepare, they try to keep things always the same. Somehow people confused these things and gave them a reputation they don't deserve.

Why aren't German journalists talking about hospital ventilators? It's top news in the US every single day. There's a shortage here too. But there's no way to spin that to blame it on a foreign country. It's like all the Germans questioning statistics from Russia and China regarding deaths but unable to question their own dumb country. That's a real sign of blind patriotism.
