It feels like Germany is rapidly degenerating into an overt police state and everyone is cheering it on. Now you can't even sit on a bench in public all by yourself anymore. Just to go outside you must have identification and proof of address. How do either of those measures prevent infection? If Germany had a decent separation of powers then their judicial branch would strike this down as unconstitutional. My best guess is that spreading fake news and misinformation (a very specific kind of misinformation - everyone reading this knows exactly which kind is meant) will become punishable by fine and, ultimately, imprisonment.
Would it not be better to just let this thing run it's course and build a bunch of make-shift hospitals like China did? Does Europe and the US really lack the technology and supplies to erect a bunch of pop up hospitals on the spot? Instead of shutting down the economy and entire societies, why not build until we can house most of the infected?
The Muslim world has just as much animosity towards the Chinese Communist Party as everyone else. 1 million Muslim Uighurs in concentration camps, their lands stolen, ethnically cleansed. That's a lot of bad blood that could be used in a potential CIA uprising/rebellion against the CPC. Maybe funnel weapons and supplies through Kazakhstan. It really is weird to see people bending over backwards not to offend China. The insistence that no one call it Wuhan virus or Chinese flu, the fact that Trump explicitly stated in a recent press conference that people shouldn't blame Americans of Chinese descent, the fact that the CDC Covid19 website dedicates multiple sections to the fact that people shouldn't attack Chinese for this crime. It's hard to take Spiegel seriously when they publish pieces like this and expect people to think that even private German media isn't directly controlled by the state. This is some of the worst journalism I've seen lately and it was a headline story on their web page:

The entire piece reads like the kind of specious explanation you'd give to a schoolchild you just want to silence. The piece boils down possible reasons for so few deaths in Germany as follows:
1. The outbreak is too early compared to other countries: This is an obvious lie. Europe's patient zero is believed to be a 33-year-old Bavarian male who infected a dozen others in January. The media likes to portray that outbreak as confined to only a few cases. Extremely unlikely.
2. Italy has an older population compared to Germany: It's simply not true at all. In fact, Italy is YOUNGER on average than Germany. Every metric you look at shows this kindergarten-level thought experiment to be wrong. Median age Italy = 45.5 ; Median age Germany = 47.1. Population above 65 Italy = 21.69%; Population above 65 Germany = 22.36%.
3. An over-strained healthcare system: Compared with Italy this is probably true. But compared with Japan and South Korea, two of the few countries that beat Germany in terms of hospital beds per capita. South Korea's death rate is 30x that of Germany and Japan's is 92x Germany's! Both of those countries have lower overall rates of Chinese Virus. And just to compare, South Korea has tested around 270,000 people by now while Germany has tested only 167,009 so it's reasonable to conclude that the underlying cause isn't under-diagnosis in South Korea.
4. Spiegel essentially repeats #1. This is not the beginning of an outbreak in Germany.
At every point Spiegel is publishing opinions that are at direct odds with verifiable facts.
What Spiegel completely ignores is that the Robert Koch Institute has publicly stated that no post Mortem tests are carried out in Germany. If you die in Germany with symptoms that look like Chinese Virus then you're simply not considered a Chinese Virus death. People like Dr. Giovanni Maga also have publicly accused Germany of under reporting by classifying Chinese Virus deaths as something else.
Maybe there's something special about Germans that keeps them from dying from Chinese Virus. Maybe Germany's healthcare system is 92x better than Japan's. Maybe Germans are just so healthy that Chinese Virus doesn't bother them like it does every single other nationality on earth. But maybe, just maybe, the government is lying (again).
When you get done reading their article, have a look at the (heavily moderated) comment section. It's full of people blaming the weather, the population density and everything else. But surprisingly to no one, it's not full of people even mildly suggesting that the government is publishing inaccurate statistics.

Have you read the pages on this site in their entirety? Some of the commentary on here might seem a bit outlandish and bit uncalled for, but I think there is also a lot of very useful stuff written. I mean the kind of stuff that might help others who are stuck in this pit. The kind of stuff that will help well-meaning people realise that they have not in fact lost their minds.
