The entire piece reads like the kind of specious explanation you'd give to a schoolchild you just want to silence. The piece boils down possible reasons for so few deaths in Germany as follows:
1. The outbreak is too early compared to other countries: This is an obvious lie. Europe's patient zero is believed to be a 33-year-old Bavarian male who infected a dozen others in January. The media likes to portray that outbreak as confined to only a few cases. Extremely unlikely.
2. Italy has an older population compared to Germany: It's simply not true at all. In fact, Italy is YOUNGER on average than Germany. Every metric you look at shows this kindergarten-level thought experiment to be wrong. Median age Italy = 45.5 ; Median age Germany = 47.1. Population above 65 Italy = 21.69%; Population above 65 Germany = 22.36%.
3. An over-strained healthcare system: Compared with Italy this is probably true. But compared with Japan and South Korea, two of the few countries that beat Germany in terms of hospital beds per capita. South Korea's death rate is 30x that of Germany and Japan's is 92x Germany's! Both of those countries have lower overall rates of Chinese Virus. And just to compare, South Korea has tested around 270,000 people by now while Germany has tested only 167,009 so it's reasonable to conclude that the underlying cause isn't under-diagnosis in South Korea.
4. Spiegel essentially repeats #1. This is not the beginning of an outbreak in Germany.
At every point Spiegel is publishing opinions that are at direct odds with verifiable facts.
What Spiegel completely ignores is that the Robert Koch Institute has publicly stated that no post Mortem tests are carried out in Germany. If you die in Germany with symptoms that look like Chinese Virus then you're simply not considered a Chinese Virus death. People like Dr. Giovanni Maga also have publicly accused Germany of under reporting by classifying Chinese Virus deaths as something else.
Maybe there's something special about Germans that keeps them from dying from Chinese Virus. Maybe Germany's healthcare system is 92x better than Japan's. Maybe Germans are just so healthy that Chinese Virus doesn't bother them like it does every single other nationality on earth. But maybe, just maybe, the government is lying (again).
When you get done reading their article, have a look at the (heavily moderated) comment section. It's full of people blaming the weather, the population density and everything else. But surprisingly to no one, it's not full of people even mildly suggesting that the government is publishing inaccurate statistics.

I honestly hate all Germans now. The better you get to know them the more completely creepy and weird every single one of them turns out to be. A country of budding serial killers, school shooters and general antisocial basket cases waiting for a new scapegoat to blame something on.
I have a theory that it's the weather/location (plus history). If you look at most of the equator countries, they tend to be friendlier, but everyone says Dutch, German, UK, French, Belgians are all asswipes. Why are Portugal, Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Taiwan, etc. all known as friendly people?
I remember the sun coming up at 3:30 in the morning, and being so close to the North Pole, that the dreary/grey/rainy cloudy overcast climate probably makes people depressed, and there's a huge link between depression and all the other negative emotions - sadness, anger, guilt, shame, etc. - combine this with the history and being taught from childhood that you're descended from pieces of vile dog poop and you need to constantly apologize for your privilege and the historical wrongs of your ancestors, and you have a recipe for nasty, angry, seething in side, unkind hateful people. It's not rocket science. The weather, the history, the intergenerational trauma, the ugly architecture, makes for a hateful and spiteful populace. And misery loves company. And that usually means inflicting onto you the pain that they're feeling inside.

When I moved here I honestly was very open minded and thought that people all over the world were the same. Eventually this place wore me down so hard that I have no other explanation other than that Germans are definitely not the same as other nationalities. It feels like a weird nationalistic/environmentalist/socialist cult here. Seeing the way people here are finally made me understand Kennedy's "Ask not what your country can do for you" quote. This is a country full of people who have no passion, no inner drive, no critical thinking skills and no sense of community outside of government-mandated contributions. Add to that the fact that everything is censored and you get a big mess with a silent majority that's going to lash out sometime soon and it won't be nice.

I'm obviously not as invested in this topic as the rest of you guys but the evidence seems pretty solid re: race and IQ. I, a firm believer in Western individualism, can reconcile this with respecting everyone by treating each individual as an autonomous creature that isn't damned to original sin. I don't explain the differential away as racism (if caucasians were devising the tests specifically to marginalize minorities then why didn't they do more to disadvantage Indians and Asians?). As for history and politics - they are the direct product of the inhabitants. You're talking about North African Berbers which are technically caucasian (I know because my ex-girlfriend was a Tunisian Berber Muslim and I studied the history with her). Exactly, that's all I'm saying. Treat everyone as an individual, but also be aware of differences. The argument "they're basically stone age because imperialism/colonialism" is what I refuted in the post above. Of course there are outliers and exceptions like I mentioned before with the pareto distribution (the black guy that becomes a chemical engineer and wins a Nobel or whatever), but the LARGE majority are not capable of those kinds of intellectual feats. Has nothing to do with white ancestry or whatever, it has to do with evolution. If you're in a sub-saharan or tropical/jungle environment with no winter, there is always plenty of food and famines are rare - and with no winter, there is no such thing as delayed gratification, going through the hardship of not having (during a winter, for instance in Europe), and coming out the other side. It is about industirousness and discipline because the genetic evolution of the races have largely determined what someone is willing to delay and what they are not. It comes down to self-control and impulsiveness.
