Sometimes it feels like they are stuck there. 2 people meet and they usually stay right where they are. Just recently I walked right through 2 people who stood in the middle of a main crossing in a supermarket, not passive aggressively, I was just considering to walk around and it felt like no way that's not right and good. The majority of women in Germany work part-time. Because most men hold all the power for hiring people. They are reluctant to hire women because they think they will get pregnant, then take 3 years off then return and want to work part-time. This angst is ridiculous given that Germany has one of the lowest birth rates in the world. The end result is angst-ridden German males who fear women have children and angst-ridden males who fear German women not having children. And women who retire into poverty since they have only worked part-time or freelance gigs. So there is a reason for everything.

Yes, lived in one for a few years. Was very close to Berlin (about 20 minutes by bike to a big train station). It was nice not having all the disgusting Berlin people around. The neighborhood was full of nice people that did stuff together occasionally like summer potlucks in the street. Once a woman gave me a ride in her car when she saw me running to the bus station. Once the bus driver waited like 30 seconds for me to get there when he saw me running. Some of the other people in the village apparently heard of me and that I was a foreigner and were very interested. Just basically the opposite of typical Berliners.
If my landlord hadn't been such an jerk I might have stayed there longer. Just hope you find a job there. A one hour commute each way is grating.
This city is like it has a personality itself, a vile one. Some of the parks are okay, but many look dishevelled, like they don't put any money to improve them. The train ticket machines are a joke, slow as hell, can't buy return tickets like in any other city in the world, they run out of change, won't work... Where is the tax money going to?? In Berlin you only have right to pay, pay, pay for everything, some of the assholes cleaning the toilets will even make you pay to use them even if you are a f**ing customers. Germans are money grubbers crooks. It's disgusting.
Just wanted to let you know that public transit was privatized in 90's along with the German Post and the Telekom after decades of public funding (maybe Germany is the "world champion" in corporate socialism). After receiving unbelievable sums of taxpayer money they're basically all hellbent on increasing prices by 10% each year (or perhaps every 2 years, either way MUCH outpacing Eurozone inflation).
I am always surprised in other cities at how clean and modern their infrastructure is - even cities you would consider poorer. The recession is coming for Germany now though to prepare to tighten your belts even more.
When I lived there I remember one day walking in one Rathaus full of homeless men spending their day in a warm place and then I walked up to a rack of shelves for leaflets (as tall as me) all of them were about different programmes for women, enterpreneurship, associations and whatnot. I remember thinking it was like out of a gynocentric dystopia. Hey at least they didn't throw the homeless on the street I guess.

There's a race to the bottom here to be the most despicable version of yourself and still expect unconditional love. Why so many single mothers? Because they are truly unbearable. I am sure there are a few exceptions and victims of domestic abuse, real treachery and misconduct. But most that I have known or known of have been bottom dwellers who were, judging their actions, determined to remain at the bottom. On the flip side, as correctly stated above, there are a lot of males here who do their best to shirk responsibility through alcohol, drugs and prostitution. The archetypal Berliner male is easy to picture and I am confident that just usinf that term conjures the same figure in all our minds. The infantile know-it-all is everywhere here and no one is amused. The think that surprises me in all of this is that any Germany women manage to get pregnant despite the massive campaigns by the government for women to use oral contraceptives (the reasons for which you can research on your own) and condoms. Perhaps their own laziness is their downfall.

German men in general are wimps and simps, while the women are clearly disatisfied by this development and thus actively seek out relationships with foreigners. Why do people in shops here make such a big deal when you pay for something with a 50 EUR or higher bill? They act like you're the most inconsiderate customer in the world. Well, I will correct that. Now you theoretically are able to make withdrawals at some supermarkets with your EC card. If you ask to do that then they really act pissy. Why's this never a problem in other countries, even though they're all much more advanced in cashless payments?
I would call you timid but having lived here I understand exactly what you mean. Interactions with cashiers in grocery stores are negative nearly 100% of the time. In the evenings at Edeka there are sometimes students who work there part time - they're sometimes decent and not yet so jaded. But the average overweight brute women thay man the tills are pure evil.

I tried and failed, they are impossible to deal with. Glad I left Germany - it really does not have ANY redeeming factors: stpid rules, stupid population. Never again!
It feels like they're all either controlling or plagued with OCD. They don't seem to understand romance. They don't seem to have any empathy. If you want or need anything it feels like you have to state it completely unambiguously and even then they seem to forget it the next day. Maybe living in such close proximity to each other makes them construct their own disparate worlds. Communication with them is exhausting and it's not due to language barriers.
Noticed today that there are signs all over the city instructing us not to go to the emergency room but instead to call some dopey German number you will never be able to remember.

Sometimes it feels you could express anger by being kind bc it feels sometimes someone wants you to do something noncaring..the projection thing. Other times there is a lack of a real needed social thing. I was smoking at a crossroad waiting for green light. A guy walks right into the space I was about to puff out. Maybe a bad example because I don't usually smoke at such spots :) but to make the point. He walked in as if he wanted me to do it and then I did. But it was a different expression. I put it on him for carelessly walking into it plus even seemingly wanting it so. It didn't make me naturally feel to care and for that I blamed him. I respectfully with a feel of justice puffed out, but not passive aggresively. He uttered something then but it puffed away. He felt it had no business really oh right he coughed artificially and I felt dude let it be.
