Dear fellow sufferers,

I first came across this site four months ago and I'm wishing I had read it much earlier. It might have saved me some money, time and plenty of anguish and emotional hardship. It's been almost a month since I made it out of here. I should thank the creators of this site for giving us all a place to vent and share our experiences. Some of the comments on these pages, particularly the earlier pages, are GOLD. They should be recommended (or compulsory) reading for anyone considering setting up base here. I can relate to just about everything that is raised in the commentary ie.

-The blatant racism experienced by those who commented on here.
-The dogshit in the streets. Huawei even made an advertisement poking fun at this issue.
-The unnecessarily complicated and arbitrary ways in which things are done here.
-The seemingly cold and unfriendly atmosphere.
-The unbelievable acts of pettiness that I have both witnessed and experienced (I could go on about this).
-The lack of real creativity and willingness to think creatively and outside the square (if you are an original or independent thinker you may have some trouble here).
-Backward mentality.
-The thinking that these people know it all and their readiness to impart this 'special' knowledge to the rest of us.
-The subtle and not-so-subtle dislike of foreigners.
-Fake, broke (and broken) artists who think they're Albrecht Durer.
-The sheer expense of living here (bullshit taxes, pension fund contribution of 200 Euro/month like wtf etc.) I'd hate to try and set up a business here. I probably wouldn't anyway given how things are here.

I've spent a bit of time in other places like Hamburg, Nuremberg, Cologne etc. and although things are a bit nicer there, those places still have many of the issues that one finds here. Sh###ing on other countries and people does not come to me naturally but such was my experience here and hence the need to unload. I am now back in my old stomping ground in Northern Australia, working at my old job. It's not my dream job and it ain't perfect here (there are many problems) but my time in Berlin and in Eastern Germany has made me appreciate the things that I had taken for granted before leaving Australia.

I genuinely wish to never heard another word of German spoken in my life. And I hope to erase all the memories I have of living in this horrible city. Somehow I think the nightmares will linger though.

Reminds me of how the German press portrayed Marco W. when he was held in a Turkish prison for sexual assault on a 13 year old girl. Or how they portrayed Raoul from Switzerland when he was arrested in the US for molesting his sister. As long as you're German (or close enough) you simply cannot be a criminal. What an absolute joke of a country.

Something weird has happened to me several times here that I can't understand. On at least three occasions (maybe more that I can't remember) I have run into former colleagues in public and I'll say hello or wave to them and they'll just completely ignore me. They will look at me but without even any kind of twinkle of recognition. I know it's a little much to assume that everyone I have ever worked with will remember me, but these are people I dealt with on a nearly daily basis. I also am very easy to remember because I look quite different from the average German. I cannot imagine having someone I know say hello to me and just completely ignoring them. I can't really even imagine doing that to a stranger without feeling extremely uncomfortable. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yeah and the person looked afraid. I think some people feel pressured to interact and then they avoid because of that, instead of picturing the normal life thing about it. They only saw the wolves from their dreams, not the sun. Or they were not in a spontaneous moment. But probably something like a relieving feel by avoiding. They probably rationalize it like no longer part of my life. But it is surely no bad ignoring with an intention to set somebody off. It's so weird

Yes this also happens at German universities. People talk to you and want sth from you when you are in their group in a course but when the semester is over you are dead to them.
Germans are always looking to get ahead and they dont care if they trample over others to get there. Its an everyone for themselves mentality. They have no consideration for others feelings. They are competitive and cold hearted to the core.

I didnt even understand the CONCEPT of racism before I lived in berlin. And I have been treated with such utter disrespect that I cant help but be racist towards Germans. So Germans I hate you for making me understand racism and for making me racist towards you and only you. Because racism is wrong and close minded and for stupid people with no education and no ability to see people as complicated individuals that have nothing to do with their background. But with Germans you have to be very very careful because they have grown up in this dangerous closed minded society.

Give me a break. The average German had no say at all in Germany's refugee acceptance policy. And I am highly suspicious even of the photo ops of families with teddy bears and signs welcoming the refugees. Germans in their own words don't like strangers and are harsh, cold toward such people. Just because a German leader, with all the hubris and connections that accompany a career politician not subject to term limits, allowed 2 million refugees into the country (which even her former security minister claims was to prevent the total collapse of the Greek government and thus the failure of several German banks) doesn't mean Germans aren't as a whole racist. Think critically of what you're being fed for once in your life.

Another thing that I wanted to add: before I came and lived in Berlin I couldnt get my head around how something like the holocaust could ever happen as it just seems so incredibly broken up. But when you ser how indoctrinated Germans are and how scared (or maybe just incapable) they are of expressing their own opinion or doing anything "outside the box" and not according to rules you start to realise the mentality that lead to it. There is a great fear of being original, of standing out and not just going along with stuff like a sheep. And if you do stand out you are humiliated or shunned. Germans have a huge fear of "the other" and that is why they subconsciously treat foreigners like shit. They dont want to be associated with that otherness as it might make them less perfect.

Speaking of rapists, do you remember when Germany finally got around to updating its laws on rape and sexual assault a few years ago and the resulting spike in reported cases? Have a look at this web page:
www.bka.de/DE/AktuelleInformationen/StatistikenLagebilder/PolizeilicheKriminalstatistik/PKS2017/InteraktiveKarten/04VergewaltigungSexNoetigung/04_VergewaltigungSexNoetigung_node.html

If we could recalculate rape and sexual assault statistics from the past 40 years I am confident that Germany would have one of the highest rates of rape in the western world. Too bad the German police are too concerned with fluffing Germany's official statistics so as to not scare off Germany's only real industry: tourism. Or, equally as cynical, maybe Germans just don't care about rape and sexual assault unless they're committed by foreigners (and we all know what even I am referring to here).
