Serious question time: Can anyone here list off anything that is better in Berlin (or Germany in general) than in other, more developed countries? I'm not interested in comparisons to the third world. Thanks.
I can tell you what isn't better:
-food, music, people, women, weather, public transportation, tax system, healthcare, schools
The cultural landscape is very diverse. There are lots of museums and music festivals, but that's the only thing that comes to mind.

Its CHEAP and you´re unlikely to feel more of an outsider than you already do here in Berlin. What are you all doing in Europe anyway..its going to the dogs.
Much of SE Asia is still developing, so no idea what you're talking about. Sure, Singapore is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, but it's a tiny spec in that region, like Lichtenstein. That said, if you're earning a western salary (remote work), you can likely live like a king in many of those countries and in general have a good time. Just the standard of living is lower and the weather sucks (hot and humid all year).
? Yeah, Berlin's winter sucks ass, but so does every day being over 30c and very humid. Most major cities in SEA are also not on the beaches, those are separate areas. Just use street view and you can see how run down and dirty those cities look for yourself, they're in a lot worse shape than Berlin. I said nothing about the wages, but even the crappy wages in Berlin are more than you'd earn in most of those countries. They are great digital nomad countries though because even a mediocre western salary will be far more than what most people in those countries earn. If I was going for something like that though, I'd rather aim for somewhere a bit closer, more developed, and drier, like some of Spain or Portugal's islands.
Guy above me is obviously just another mindless Matze who continues to perform the convoluted mental gymnastics necessary present this garbage heap of a city as even acceptable. Look Matthias, people elsewhere in the world who aren't piss-poor, hand-to-mouth peasants, when encountering a problem, are intelligent and sensible enough to fix the problem with money. If one is so sensitive to the heat that 30° is deemed miserable then one invests in an air conditioner, that thing that was invented over a century ago. Maybe it's difficult to align that purchase with your fear of carbon emissions and global warming, but your aforementioned quantum cognizance can take care of that for you.
And the streets of Southeast Asia are most certainly not more run down, dirty or disgusting than those of Berlin. I would venture to say even that, per capital, there is more fresh urine on the streets of Berlin than in any city in Southeast Asia. And in Southeast Asia you don't have to fear that your car will be ignited overnight by an autistic Antifa drone who lives at home with his mother. At least the police in Asia actually do something - not like the ones in Berlin that hold seminars on how properly lock up your bike, spraypaint reminders are the most dangerous parts of the city to lookout for pickpockets, and harass foreign-looking males to elevate the "subjective feeling of security" among this city of failure.

Did you ever, as a foreigner ever get sick of people saying `Fühlen Sie sich wohl hier?´ They said it to me until I finally made out why, namely that they aren´t happy, so how dare we non-germans be walking around with a pleasant look on our faces. A german friend told me that germans judge smiling people to be simpletons or americans, which to them is the same thing. I woke up today here on the other side of the world from Deutschland, laughed and did a victory strut around my bedroom. Oh it feels good never to have to deal with those folk again! In most big cities like London, Madrid, Brussels or Hamburg, you meet with colleagues for some drinks. But Berlin doesn't have any big companies. It's share of self-employed people and small enterprises is much higher than anywhere else. So financially everybody is on edge. And most people aren't affluent at all. Then add a substantial segment of really poor people living from entitlements of the state. It's a pity that in Berlin you won't ever hear lively chatter among 30 year old professionals in pubs and bars, filing out of their offices and enjoying life. These are the people who splurge on culture, fashion and art. These are the people who have careers.
Many local cultures make a virtue or "principle" out of a given fact. Correspondingly, Berliners hate normal corporate professionals and their lifestyle because Berlin hardly has any, yet. I'm sure one day one of its start-ups will grow massively and generate this professional class. Until then, it's a bad place for anybody aged 25-45 who wants to get along and get ahead. Until then, its horrible Brandenburg roots and harsh ever-present historical wounds will remain essentially un-transformed. Bourgeois, liberal working people are like tranquilizers and anti-depressants that Berlin direly needs.
That work colleagues usually don't meet for drinks is rather a german thing than a berliner thing. It's in their logic not to mix things up, each person has it's own designated place. I was surprised to see that this is also the case for younger people ...

Berlin is a city for layabouts, losers, bums, slackers, sh*t wannabe artists, alcoholics, drug addicts, people with personality disorders, people with very poor social skills. Germans are basically collectively autistic, so if you have horrible social skills/low empathy, you'll do well in Berlin. Berlin is at least 10-15 years away from any kind of transformation to become a cosmopolitan city. I think it will actually get worse as Islamisation and ghettoization increases. Imagine Berlin as ugly and depressing as it is, but with no go zones.
