Because these cretins have no concept of personal space, I am using my suitcase at the airport as a buffer to keep the herd back. They are still bumping into it and surrounding it… but at least it’s not my person! That’s the problem when you have a culture of assertion and learnt dominance. OP here- yes I am, to Lisbon. It’s worlds apart here. People are charming, polite not snappy, they don’t look grotesque, no one stares, the buildings are delightful. Yes no where is perfect but after picking up my baggage from the baggage reclaim I just ran away from those berlin creatures. I couldn’t wait to get away from their bad energy and rude presence. I would love to move here ! And for all those lovely Germans telling me to ‘go home/leave’ 1) this concept was dealt with decades earlier and I’m not gonna educate you on it. 2) I might just do that and let you stew in your own juices together
Things I don't miss about Berlin/Germany:
-Middle-aged men wearing earrings
-People who smell like poop obsessing over cleanliness and tidiness
-People who have a poor grasp of English talking to foreigners in said language because foreigners are not smart enough to learn Krautspeak.
-Women sporting nose piercings
-Face tattoos
-People who like Yerba Mate or any derivative
-People who can't clean their nose in a subtle manner
-People who call themselves tolerant and liberal, yet don't have at least one foreign friend
-People who call out religious fanatics but are obsessed with being "green".
-People being in open relationships
-People past the age of 30 still studying some bullsh1t degree
-People doing drugs in public

-Women sporting short, spiked hair that is coloured purple or green
-German "food"

I dont think OP is pro Contact Tracing, more anti the absurdity of having to use an App to share your data, when said data is basically used by nobody. There is a weird, blind acceptance of authority here, no matter how stupid it is. This whole "na ja aber ist so" mentality means that some of these surface level rules like masks, Luca etc will never end

The Germans hate here too now. I mean not the Online Germans, but the real ones on the street. Not only did she complain about the Deutschs Bahn (which indeed seems to be run by f*cking morons that don't habe any business acumen at all aside from palming governtment subisides) but also recently said Germany sucks when it comes to environmentalism. Real Germans cannot stand any outside criticism of Germany. Outside of Spiegel, she is basically done here.
Just back to the hole from Ireland. Let me start with the ‘new’ airport. It isn’t new. They got the bathroom design team from Bauhaus to create this 1991 chic interior. The train seems miles away from the airport, the escalators are lacking. The only shape employed is a square, usual German autistic foible. It’s brown- think 1970, beige- think 2001, and black-like it’s soul. It’s so dark in there and the square outdoor- courtyard thing is fascist- reminding me of Beijing. Arriving back to the joke of an airport reminds me of stepping back into this regressive, miserable place. In Ireland, I had a weekend trip, it was jolly, people were smiling and incredibly friendly, there was laughter and atmosphere in the pubs and buzzing in the streets. This was in spite of a long, harsh lock down they had had. The multi-cultural almosphere vibrant and the communities appeared present, loud, cheerful and included and not like their berlin suppressed counters. Their voices seemed to be heard and respected… not having to be the mice here curtailing to the German monster race (that’s a joke don’t sue me). Now I have to hear this language again and look and the dull green trees and see the army coloured pylons reminiscent of the regime that apparently ended. I can hear the Germans complaining and moaning already “mmmmm” you can hear the way they mmm with that insufferable intonation

I basically have to keep a linkedin profile, which I almost never use. But every time I do log into it, the number one top post I see is always either the picture of Merkel shopping with some kind of cheesy message that says "this is angela merkel, she goes shopping near her 20 m2 apartment everyday without security and is buying three bottles of wine in the pic, so relatable right? it's wine oclock somewhere ahahahah" or a pic that says "this is merkel, she been chancellor for 16 years. no change is actually GOOD for democracy blah blah blah". Never once have I ever seen anything comparable to any other politician on linkedin and almost 80% of my contacts aren't even German. Worst part is that it's usually an Indian who posted the original pic and a bunch of Germans underneath saying "Sank u Herr Deejeersang for posting zis beautiful picture of Fwau Doktor Merkul, vee Chermans is very prout of heeeaaah". This surely isn't real life.
