Why do they eat cold, untoasted bread with coldcuts and cheese for dinner? In the US, that's maybe a summertime lunch by the beach. And even then, we have chips, drinks and actual sandwiches.
Always turn down any dinner invitation at someone's home.
One time I was watching a really old rerun of Frauentausch and the guy was complaining that Germans only eat one warm meal a day and that he liked for all of his meals to be warm. The German woman and the moderator all acted like that is outrageous.
I left Berlin two months ago, but every day my morning ritual is to drink a coffee and open berlinhater. Nobody in my home city gets it unless they know someone who lived in Berlin. A few friends left but they are living in other places. A therapist wouldn’t get it either. So thanks guys
This official Berlin police department webpage is so creepy:

In what civilised part of the world do the authorities post pictures of dead bodies on the internet?
This whole “bio” “nature” thing is simply because most germans can’t afford to buy a car and can’t afford to buy new clothing. They can’t afford to travel to places like “America” which they hate. They can’t afford to do much of anything so instead they are doing it for some noble cause. No.... just simply have no choice
The first gasoline taxes in Europe were created to raise money for the government. The first gasoline taxes in America were raised to lower consumption, so in essence for environmentalism. The Germans took note and realized that people will respond better to disincentives if it's tied to something virtuous, as since religion here is all but dead, environmentalism is the next best thing.
I wonder how all the drug addict are coping with this virus
I’m surprised no journalist have made article about BH. Conspiracy?!!
Do you know any foreigners who actually make more than 1500 after tax per month
HEY DO REMEMBER MY POST LAST WEEK?
Do you think it has anything to do with the reason the Irish Embassy is closed?
They haven't announced to the public yet, but there is a growing Covid cluster amongst the staff, and they all agree, ONE PERSON IS TO BLAME for letting the evil in.
The singer songwriter who recently scored a job there....
I don't know nor do I care. Just write the person's name - I'm not going to try to play a pop trivia game. Why would a popular singer songwriter work at an embassy?
And of course the obligatory logic here: Were we ever contact tracing every person who infected others with the seasonal flu? So far, covid19 has killed about 50% the number of people in Germany who die in a typical year of the seasonal flu and that is spread over 1.5 flu seasons. Curiously only 517 people died in Germany of the flu last season.
A lot of people here complain about Peter Pan Syndrome in Berlin and they're completely right. It feels like in most other countries there is a point where adults are expected to stand on their own two feet. In Germany, people are infantilized well into their late 20s. School/Abitur until you're 20, then at least 6 years to get a master's (though when you speak to Germans you'll quickly learn that almost no one graduates without doing 1-2 extra years). People can stay on their parents' health insurance until 26. They get "Kindergeld" until 27. They can be tried as "youths" until they are 25 or more. On the other hand, they still must attend some form of schooling until they are 16 even if they've graduated (yes, it's possible to finish Hauptschule before 16 - such students must attend some kind of training or schooling or else their parents will be fined or lose custody). They can have sex from the age of 13 (can even have sex with someone 20 years older with very few restrictions). Officially according to the German rating system, films can have FSK 0 (suitable for children from 0 years old) for films with entire subplots about giant penises (www.youtube.com/watch) - but until very recently if there was animated blood or swastikas then it was effectively banned from being sold within the country. This is the website of the biggest children's/youth magazine in Germany (www.bravo.de/dr-sommer/die-neue-penis-galerie-175567.html NSFW). This all leads to completely undisciplined Stefans and Claudias that have a malformed view of the world. It's one of the many reasons that these people are intolerable. Getting these people to accept that their upbringing was completely messed up is as difficult as getting a person who beaten as a child to accept that they were physically abused. The word cognitive dissonance is thrown around a lot these days, but that definitely explains Germans.
Exactly what also happened in Berlin www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8818631/Swedish-police-chiefs-plead-resources-migrant-mafia-gangs-terrorise-country.html
Describe the German language using one word or sentence.
German is such a beautiful language. That's why internationally it's used exclusively to train dogs and why there's so much popular German-language poetry that is so loved worldwide. In its perfected form, Yiddish, it really shines with the kinds of throat noises almost no other language can offer.
Weird compulsion to make every statement use a strong verb (like "command") with an unnecessary noun to sound more intelligent than it is. There is (or was) a long article on The Guardian about it from back before they started sucking Germany's sausage all the time. Something like "the substantisation of academia" or something. Went into detail on how Germans love that way of writing because it sounds more authoritative. And don't even get me started on the use of passive voice here to shirk off ANY personal responsibility and their overuse of exclamation points. "Hier wird eine Maske getragen!!!!" Etc.
they always have to hammer everything home and make absolutely sure the message has got through. They are not content with direct, it's somehow got to be more than that. Thats why they always say things and then follow it up with an email saying exactly the same thing spelt out explicitly as if you are stupid.
Berlin leaving feels like a whole different city than Berlin pre-move or even Berlin first six months
I remember the first day I ever came to Berlin and was at Unter den Linden saying to the person I was with "I love Berlin" as I slowly began to concoct a multi-year plan to move here. If I had a time machine I'd go back and show myself what a few years did to me. Or better yet, I'd suckerpunch my old self in the back of the head and run off. Nothing would be off limits to prevent former me from moving to this shithole.
I’m trying to make sense of it. If anything it gave me as a white empathy for what it must feel like to experience xenophobia and racism. Although it’s not close to what POC encounter in Berlin, it gave me a taste of what it could be like. That and it made me grateful for my life before Berlin. But also it helped me become less ignorant and more focused
Even Swiss and Austrians can`t stand Germans.
There is no close friendly relations between German speaking countrys , unlike English speaking countries.
