I saw a post about the lack of berlinhaters who left the sh*thole for a new city/country. So here is mine, first i wanna thank this website that made me feel a little more sane and not alone during my 2 years in Berlin a year ago. I came back to my hometown (Paris, Fr) for few months to prepare my new life, and now i live in a quite big city in Spain (not Barcelone which is, i think ,a sunny Berlin) since few months. I still have anxiety crisis, hypocondrie, tinnitus and other physical problems thanks to Berlin. But i'm starting to recover slowly. Here the streets are clean, the sky is blue, everyone is welcoming, friendly, dress properly, don't have any problem with money, it's safe, no drugs, no broken up people, i can basically talk to anyone without rejection from their part. I have a job, collegues are nice and friendly. Life.is.beautiful. I'm trying to warn any people who is like "ooh i would like to live in Berlin, such an amazing city! , it's gonna take few years till i get fully comfortable, cause i'm still scared of being screamed at in shops/restaurants, or being mugged by creepy crack heads...but well i'm recovering!! So yes guys theres is hope after hell!! Don't give up!! I still come here from time to time to remember the hell i lived and how i slowly recover.

So yes there is other wonderful cities in the world where people are normal and humans. it still exists. DON'T GIVE UP AND RUN AWAY AT ALL COSTS from this sh*thole, If you wanna stay sane mentally and recover quickly! Stay home the most that you can, create your bubble of happiness, you hut of peacefullness, put your head in a book/joyfull music who warms your heart during transports, find a home hobby, and it will be fine, this is how i survived during 2 years, oh and put your head into finding the city of your dreams and work on your plan to escape! Heads up!!

Yes, I don't see anything wrong with it. The personal space thing is pretty good. Of course these idiots so to speak should not feel like they had to do it, they should feel how it feels for them. Ideally someone moves freely within their personal space, it kinda does everything karmawise in many cases. Lately, I waited at a bus station and some guy with his wife, holding hands walked by way too close. Noone likes this. So while I didn't feel like walking ahead, I felt it could! be that I wanted to, he should consider that. So that's why I did it, angrily. I wasn't sneaky or such, that wouldn't make any sense. I happened to bump into him. He brainfarted a sorry. He got it. He was doing it off, ah this guy, he ain't gonna do anything or if then he reacts to me. He did feel better because of it or he wouldn't been so quick to say sorry. After all I was running into him with anger, I mean he could seen it like that. Because I didn't do that. I just moved in my space, kind of a bluff call. The sorry really shows how he was aware, but acted as if not. If he didn't notice me as he pretended to, he would have felt offended at first but how come he knew. And it probably was his wife even, where he felt he would be weak if he would move over.

Surely in some situations it doesn't feel like doing that. Is it a provocation, is it like the above. But yeah, that's the natural way to go about personal space things. You could get something out of your bag in a queue. Many confuse this with being passive aggressive. You could!, Sure you don't feel like it, but you could. But if you are reacting to it, you are on the low level then. It's not a lie.

It doesn't even have to be done by Mark Zuckerberg or anyone high up - it could just be a polisci grad who sets the rules and regulations on Whatsapp use who anonymously leaks your conversations to the press. Say something slightly controversial in public (think Mario Lopez saying parents shouldn't give 3 year old kids hormone replacement therapy) and it'll happen. They can put all the in-app messages about end-to-end encryption they want but it means nothing when the encryption keys are saved on their servers. And, by the way, it's the same darn thing with Threema and probably Telegram. The only difference being that Threema and Telegram aren't yet trying to curry favor with the media and politicians by pushing identity politics (remember when Whatsapp was falling all over itself to figure out if Alex Jones had an account they could ban?). Doesn't make a difference anyway when you're using an iPhone that stores all its keys in ffucking China or an android that... I think we all know what Alphabet has been up to since 2016 thanks to Judicial Watch. Maybe ParanoidAndroid is better (but doubtfully since it's financed by German Paul Henschel) or perhaps Cyan but as a normal person you have no way to know. I wish more "berlinhaters" that have left Berlin would share their experience in their new country of choice, and how it compares to their previous life in Berlin (but perhaps most them never come back to this site, I wouldn't blame them). I get the feeling a lot of people here would benefit. A lot of us still here feel stuck and unsure of where to go. I know for myself that living in Berlin has created so much fear in me that I'm afraid anywhere else will just be the same. I've read a lot of posts on here over the past year and as much as I love the rants, I'd also love some constructive posts from anyone who has escaped. Personally, I'm considering Portugal, a smaller city, not downtown Lisbon. When I visited Lisbon a few months ago I didn't get a good vibe from it, parts were nice, but other parts smelly and ugly just like Berlin. I'm thinking of heading to an even smaller city, or close to the city in a country house. Porto perhaps? After many years here in Berlin I feel so disconnected from people and from nature. I don't want to go for walks in the parks and have to dodge gay prostitution, drug dealers, people have sex, public urination (men and women) and naked sunbathers (go to a nudist beach for Gods sake, not the public park). I also don't want to watch people in my community throw trash on the streets. Maybe I'm too picky. Maybe every city is disgusting. Maybe every city smells like piss and cigarettes (not true, Japan is fightingly clean).

Most mega cities are like that. I think Porto is a good idea. Also Montreal, Wellington (NZ), Adelaide (Australia), Liverpool, great people there. I've herad very good things about Bristol. I love Bolgna, perfect size and cool happy people who love celebrating life. Galway. Cologne has very friendly people. Hamburg for sure. Wroclaw (Poland). Amsterdam is wonderful but expensive. I love Bratislava for a vist, very chilled out small city. Spend a few days in Poznan, easy to get to and cheap. If you are into vegan food, use HappyCow.com as your app to find veg and vegan places anywhere in the world. Also Tunbridge Wells, lovely people there.

Every time you visit another city, you have to realise the difference between Berlin and abroad. When I was now a week away from Germany I realized, it was almost everywhere quite tolerable! When I got out at the airport in Berlin, I felt really miserable and at that moment I realized, that I don't want to be in this town anymore! I think when I'm moving out of Berlin now, I'll just silently watch the way people behave elsewhere. First I go to Barcelona and I want to stay there for a while and calm down. Are you afraid to leave Berlin? Afraid to go for a better life? Think realistically. OK? ;)

When you go shopping, you get greeted with a grumpy, depressed face. Everyone seems to be effin nuts, everyone pretends to be someone he/she is not.

They usually have everythng big cities have, they are usually cheaper and more friendly and welcoming. If you want to see a big show once or twice a year, just go to the mega cities for it, but enjoy the other 363 days much more in a city where you are not anonymous.

If you spend too much time in Berlin, you will develop a mental illness and be forced to adopt Lefty-Speek, even if you don't believe their pseudo-anarchist and communist bullshittt. Live somewhere where you don't have to squeeze your entire life into a tiny, poorly constructed shoebox-sized apartment that belongs to someone else. Where people feel a sense of responsibility and accountability for their own possessions. I.e. somewhere that isn't Germany. Even tiny towns here are full of apartment complexes because people here are too poor or too poorly organized to ever own property. Hard to ever feel like an adult when you have to listen to your neighbors pissing. flushing their toilets and closing their cupboards your entire life. Feels like perpetually living in a student dorm, minus the camaraderie and sense of youthful hope.
