I only have to technically register after 3 Months right? My impressions of Germans so far: greedy, incompetent, passive-aggressive, idiotic. And this is not just Berlin but country-wide.... I wont be tying myself to any real-estate here anytime soon, as that seems to be the trick. They like to tie you to a apartment, so they can f*** you at work.

I've herad that the banking Frankfurt s much better than what people thnk it is because a lot of the people who rubiish it are Berlin types, you know, fake anarchsts, but there's plenty of money available there for big thinkers and also proper wages and lot of real cultural acivities an real artists.

OC,

I understand how you feel. I think you need to set a limit to the amount of crap you are willing to take. Some of us expats reach this point quicker than others. Others live in a bubble and don't really understand what we're going through. There are nice people to be met, but I would say that most of my experiences and interactions have been negative, or have left me thinking 'lol, what the f... was that about?'.

As far as living/working arrangements go, I think you have it figured out. It's best not to lock yourself into anything permanent at this point. I was luck enough to get a month by month contract in a four-share wohnung (apartment). This means that rent is reasonable and that only a month's notice would be needed if I decide to bail. You can find good options on the wg-gesucht website, anything from 2 weeks to two/three months without lengthy contracts, bonds, advances or any of that crap I can't as much insight into the actual work side of things as the foreigners office have been f....g me around for months. This is something they're pretty good at. But I guess the same thing goes, don't let them push you around or force you into anything.

I wish you well, whatever you decide to do :)

I'm an anti-Feminist, in fact I despise, loathe and hate feminists, but I do feel for you, this is a horrible trap to be caught in. But you have to repect his rights, the same as you would want him to expect your rights and not run off with the child. You haven't given enough details about his wishes and involvement, does he see the child regularly. This is a big problem these days, young people have been brought up with popular lefty values of not understanding what responsibility is anymore, so if he is not taking his repsonsibilities seriously, then maybe you could just go somewhere that he could get to withing an hour or two drive, I'm sure the courts would not consider that unreasonable.

Maybe form a group somehow of other PARENTS, not just MOTHERS, and see how they are tackling it.

I really wish for you to find a way out of this bind that doesn't cause any harm to your child. I think if he is not seein the child, and you move within a reasonable distance and he goes for a year or so without seeing the child, you would have a case in the courts that he is no longer in he childs life, which would make he child feel even worse knowing that it's own father doesn't want to see it.

I really wish for you to have your happiness back. But get legal advice, don't do a runner, because if he complains, and they catch you, you might lose access to your child. Threat this very seripusly and with a level head. Maybe move to a new area first that is more normal and family oriented.

If you want more advice, give us some more detail. How old is your child?

Go to a city that is more civiized, like Bonn, Cologne, Lubeck or Kiel. Flensburg. is close to Denmark, so you could pop over the border easily, or Konstaz, then you are on the border of Switzerland. A typical day in Berlin: (Google translate)
At the tram stop in front of Berlin Central Station (Mitte), he picked up a five-year-old child and bit his cheek. Now Daniel K. (20) is standing in front of the Berlin district court.

"The dental impressions were on my daughter's cheek for two days," says mother Aileen D., 40, as a witness. The biting attack took place on 15 March 2019 at 16.55.

"We had come by train from Nuremberg, just three minutes in Berlin," the mother continued. "I was waiting for the M10 with my two daughters. The man approached us smilingly, took the little girl in her arms. I felt he just thought she was cute and cuddly. I thought the uplifting might be such a cultural thing for him. Looked like he wanted to kiss her. But she cried, he bit into it. "

He also attacked a Zalando employee
The Eritrean man did not randomly attack strangers on the street for the first time. A month before, Anastasia S. (26) had an eerie encounter with the man on the Marchlewskistraße in Berlin-Friedrichshain. "I went to work in the morning, he asked for a cigarette," said the Zalando manager. "When I said I had no cigarettes, he threw stones between my legs and haunted me."

In Warschauer Strasse he had lifted and thrown a heavy concrete block. "He could really have done something to someone," the witness said. Although Daniel K. was arrested for the time being. But let it run again soon.

Not guilty of mental illness
Only after the biting attack at the main station, he came in March in custody. He has been in the hospital for the past two months. Due to a mental illness he should not be guilty.

Whoa! That was heavy! But I totally get where you're at. I remember trying get access to the internet when I first got to Germany. I bought a SIM card from ALDI and then had to get this registered (along with completed from) at a post office. To make matters worse, only certain post offices can carry out this task, so I had to waste time looking for one that could. I finally found one when I was in Bonn (over a week after I had arrived) and then had to wait several days for it to be cleared. This made getting in touch with others difficult and seemed like a mission. It is a process that ought to be simple and could be done with a few clicks of a mouse or a 10 minute consultation in most countries, but NOT Germany.

One has to laugh at the confused thinking behind many laws in Germany. On one hand economic immigrants (who give genuine refugees a bad name) are given everything on a plate, were invited into this country in huge numbers and are literally getting away with murder. Many of them have no intention of ever working here. On the other hand, people like us come here wanting to work and be good citizens but are made to jump through 500 hoops and are regarded with suspicion. I was told by a German that one could be fined 1000 Euro for killing a wasp and that they even have a tax on fun. If true, only Germans could come up with something so stupid and outrageous. The laws and procedures that are in place here, along with a mind-boggingly stupid political apparatus, are surely impacting the attractiveness of Germany as a place to live, work and study.

I have noticed a few things about the Germans in my time here. They all seem to think the same thing, like they have all been programmed to repeat arbitrarily silly PC nonsense. Calling them out or disagreeing with them could get you into trouble and they will try to humiliate, condescend and slap you down. It has been disturbing listening to the stuff that comes out of their mouths. Every so often one craves that bit of human warmth and understanding, but there is a HUGE shortage of it here in Germany. I came here with an open mind and was in good mental health. That has been almost completely destroyed.

I could write a book on my experiences with officials and bureaucrats in this country and it could be of value to others who are considering coming here. I have had to fill out some forms 3 times and have been asked to provide proof of contribution to the pension fund (Rentenversicherung) and expected income, both of which are difficult or impossible at this point, given that I have no work permit. Furthermore, prospective employers cannot give me work because I do not yet have a permit. Catch-22 much? It's been almost four months since my first appointment with the Foreigner's office and there is no end in sight. I get tourettes thinking about all this stuff.

Well I have just been informed by the Ausanderbehorde that my visa application was rejected. The seven months spent here were all for nothing, or so it would seem. I am told I could appeal this decision, but it hardly seems worth it at this point. On one hand I have invested so much time and money trying to learn the language, cooperating with slow and incompetent bureacrats, finding a place to rent, getting accounts set up, applying for work, doing voluntary teaching (until I could do so in a paid capacity) and was willing to contribute to society (if one can call it that). I had hoped that while this was all happening things would improve with time and that it would all work out. On the other hand my time here has taken an enormous toll on my mental health and I have encountered some truly terrible human beings. Is the visa rejection a blessing in disguise perhaps?

I agree. I also wish I had run into an irreconcilable problem with immigration when I moved here. Losing the option to stay isn't a blessing in disguise, it's a blessing in plain view. After having spent 7 months here you'll already know how much this place sucks, how unbelievably petty and disgusting and inhuman the people here are. You know how expensive and low quality, low class this city is. And that was mostly during warmer parts of the year. Berlin summers have their own problems but the winter here is about 20x worse. Zero sun for weeks, perhaps months. Days (if you can call them that) that last for about 4 hours. Leaving to work in complete darkness and returning home in the same. Sludge and ice you can barely waddle to the train station in to wait for the inevitably late winter trains (maybe due to weather, maybe to due strikes, maybe due to technical problems - who can really ever know?). Then when they do arrive they're filled with the stench of a dozen homeless winos and junkies who live in them, just like the underground stations where people camp out for months leaving their puddles and piles of human filth all over the place.

Get back to sanity, don't try to spread roots here and enjoy your life where the people are human beings.

I'm so angry that I can't think straight, on the other hand I can't wait to get the hell out of here. In my experience the following are among the most contemptible lies ever told:

- Germans are open-minded - well only if you think like 80-85% of them do (many of their beliefs are at best questionable)
- German ingenuity - exactly how is this a thing and at what cost?
- German efficiency - a widely held conception, but as with many stereotypes, it far exceeds the reality
- It's the most advanced country in the world - in what sense exactly? In cultural, spiritual, educational, technological and philosophical terms one could easily make the case for China, Russia, Poland, Austria...the list goes on. Living here has been like a throwback in many ways.

Germans are open-minded for escaping, like drugs, medication, alcohol, cigarettes etc.

Look at the mess they made of teh BER airport, they only found out two weeks before opening day, and here we are seven years later.

They get rid of the Stasi, and then open the gigantic BND to spy on its citizens instead.

They are so full of shame and guild they pander to every politically-correct cult that asks for a handout.

No need to explain why they have zero popultaion growth :o) but this leads to having to bring in illegals and so-called asylum seekers.

I wish you good luck, but really, anywhere else, you won't need much luck. Cut your losses and get away, don't try to recoup the time you've lost like an addicted gambler. You'll make new friends very easily in a new city and forget all about Berlin very quickly.

I don't know this guy, but you can be sure it happened alright. I'd be shocked if it didn't happen. I'm actually surprised he or she wasn't masturbating while releasing the chocolae soft-serve.

Moved from Berlin three years ago. Has the following got worse since I've been away:

- "refugee crisis" aka the 3rd world freeloader infiltration
- poop art projects. I was hoping gentrification would wipe them out
- Drunk locals on benefits who hate foreigners

These three points are what made me leave.

Why should I pay tax so my neighbour who pays just €200 rent can stay at home and get drunk every night. Don't get me started on the migrants they're the same people...just looking for handouts. The artists are a tad different, they're just lost in life but are very annoying due to their moral superiority.

Worst are lefty-SJW-virtue signallers, mainly made up of types on your list. They think they are going to free-thought universities, but get sucked into a brainwashed Marxist, anti-capitalist cult of young people who are cut off from all that is important in their lives, family and friends, because they wanted to have a 'cool' Berlin experience. If I had my way, I'd rename Berlin, Berserk.

The city is overloaded with lost 'anarchist' lefty-fascist thugs, for whom black is the new brownshirt. I'm happy for you that you escaped before also becoming mentally ill. I've been out for two weeks and feel much better already. Dreading having to go back soon to tie uo some loose ends. These morons buy the lefty, global-warming-apocalypse fear-mongering, hook, line and sinker. Not one original thought in their braiwashed heads.

That really is what opened my eyes to The German Dream. I was busting my butt with a 130% course load at university plus evening classes at a VHS here plus working 20-30 hrs a week just to scrape by barely in a tiny 1 room apartment. The guy who lived below me literally would yell every night until about 2am and then start the next day at noon. Couldn't leave my window open in summer cos the butt was always smoking weed and something else that smelled like burning tired (maybe DMT). Refused to answer the door the millions of times I tried to complain. The cops/ordnungsamt refused to do anything as did the landlord. I assume he was on handicap money because he was only like 20. Anyway, I did the math and realized it's always that way in every apartment here. Thanks to H4 and Wohngeld you're never more than an arm's length from social scum. If somehow by a Berlin miracle you earn 60-70k € it is still the same. You have to leave this hellhole to have a real life. It will never change unless the welfare state fails and these children are forced to grow up.

I wonder where Berlin would be if it weren't for all the fat English people and Americans. Not only talking about after the war and throughout the cold war but also all the poor saps that spend their money here on misguided holidays full of disappointment. Does Berlin have any industry outside of tourism?
