Should I dedicate time to learning more of the coding/tech stuff or learning german? My gut is telling me coding/tech skills because they bring in more money/offer more opportunities for freelancing/remote work/and better quality of life. Developer jobs can pay a lot more in the US (not all do, the highest paying ones are mainly for top school graduates with good connections working in SF, Seattle, or NYC) but the US has a ton of negatives right now, worse than Germany, not just Trump and Republicans in power though that's a major part of it. You'd be chasing after a short term benefit with higher long term risks. You can get similar salaries in Switzerland and Australia and not have to put up with the same poop you do living in the US, not that anywhere is completely perfect of course.
But for the OP, I agree with others that learning to code well and becoming a developer has much greater benefits than using that same time to learn German. I think if you are in Germany or really plan on moving, you should definitely study it, but devote a lot more effort to becoming a good developer. It's not as easy as some websites and code schools make it sound, they just want people paying to use them.

I work in a FANG company as a developer and most dev jobs become routine after 4 years. I wouldn't bother aiming so low to be honest. You'll be stuck with dudes working with web frameworks complaining about female talent as shown above. Nothing wrong with learning to program but use it in a niche, otherwise you'll be stuck with the retard above in a design agency.
Dev jobs suck pretty much everywhere but are also the easiest paths to finding work in other countries. Once you have your foot in the door, you can aim for something better long term.
Simply learning German and having some common job skills that there are no special demand for won't help someone find work in Germany and stay long term, especially if they don't have an EU passport.

Bratislava is very laid back, maybe too laid back. Barcelona is worth a try, go for a holiday and meet some people, really easy to get connected there and if you decide to stay, don't live in the centre, live out a little bit, cheaper and more chilled. I love Barcelona, great energy there. I think Budapest is worth a try, I'm going for a holiday there soon to try it out. Konstanz is a good place as well, on the border of Switzerland. Heard some good things about Lisbon and Porto. My advice from experience is to live where your family and friends are and just go for trips to other places, have fun and go back home.

The salaries to cost of living is worse in Portugal, Spain, and Italy and they have higher unemployment. Italy is also pretty unstable politically, poop can change there very rapidly. Barcelona is pickpocket central though it's supposedly gotten better last I heard. I hear mostly positive things from people living there but usually what I've seen is from those who haven't been there long, so it's possible it's just a honeymoon phase like people experience in many cities. In terms of climate and location, I think Barcelona is better than Lisbon and Rome. For dating as a man, maybe Barcelona? Lisbon may be a bit too small with many women already having gotten married or in long term relationships by their mid 20s? Not sure Prague is better. It's well known for being flooded with tourists and kind of crappy looking outside of the old area. If you're looking for somewhere nicer looking, reasonably affordable, that isn't flooded with tourists, Vienna may be an option (it gets tourists but isn't known for feeling overwhelmed by them), but their job market isn't that hot still. Within Germany, there's Hamburg or if you're looking for something more conservative and often tacky, Munich.
Recommending Hamburg and Munich to someone who wants to escape from a shithole?
