Quit being proud of how 'direct' and 'straightforward' Germans are. There's a difference between being honest, mature and being an inflexible stone, who lacks social sensitivity, emotional intelligence and the ability to put oneself in others' position. Beside, why are they so convinced that being 'direct' is always, always the best strategy? It's not. Different people are different and relationships are too complex to claim there's only one best strategy to deal with the people around you. But this is the thing, you know, 'most' Germans don't and can't deal with too much complexity, uncertainty and the grey areas. It's like, they lack the light-hearted spirit that can allow you to find flexible solutions and laugh along the way. They would rather see everything governed and controlled and if there's a crack in their secure structure, they would take it upon themselves to forcefully reinforce their ideals and control others. thats why they are so freaking frustrated all the time.
This is based on my experiences at work places, dating Germans and general street encounters/strangers.

You completely nailed it. There are direct only because they can't interact with people in any other way. They are computerized, programmed, indoctrinated. They are robots, not human.

There is a huge difference between being direct and straighforward and simply being negative and rude. German society seems to have never matured enough to learn how to control their pessimistic thoughts and aggressive behaviours. Which sadly means that they find the basic politeness and pleasantries found in other cultures/countries impossible to understand and interact with.

Thank you SO much for this. My parents migrated here so I was born here, but I was born with different ideals and it definitely did a number on my childhood experiences. I've lost count of all the times I felt insulted, offended, hurt or simply disrespected, only to have people tell me "not to take it so personally" and that I was the one being "too sensitive" about it. I mean, I'll admit to being sensitive any day, but the actual problem is they make you feel like it's a bad thing. I'm sorry I actually care about the way I communicate with people? Lol.

Berlin is full of wanna be cool people who are not cool at all. They escape to Berlin in the belief they can " be themselves" because " no one cares what you look like, think like etc" sorry but you can be yourself back home too! Only reason you feel you can't is because you simply are not cool enough to do and think what you want through fear. So hang out with like minded female hygene product bags in Berlin and be cool?? HA HA you people are boring. I hate Berlin, it's ugly, grey, oppressive and full of people who don't belong there, full of ex pats who think they are cool, full of hipsters who think they are the only beings on earth, don't get me started on music, if you don't like techno doof doof or really bad metal then there is no hope. The only thing the city has going for it is cheap beer and drugs and late night bars and clubs, which are full of people with too much self importance and not enough substance to make them remotely interesting. Sorry your beer is poop too

When I lived there whenever I said something like "I will leave this place soon", "I don't like it here" or "this place is ugly" I every single time got comments like "but Berlin is the place to be" or "you're the one with the problem" and NOT even then I never replied rudely, merely a yeah right. (most of them never had seen anything else but the city btw) But now, a couple years after I left I can honestly say I am better off now. I am more productive, more independent and happier then I ever was or would have been, had I continued living in Berlin. *Drops Mic*

I struggled to stand up and called a friend on the phone to come pick me up.
Is such a lack of humanity even possible? Those sons of female dogs were looking at me and no one had the presence of mind to come help me. Unbelievable. I cannot wait to f!ck off from this hellish place, I hope one day this city gets fuck!ng destroyed because this is all it deserves.

After a soul sucking 7 years here I can honestly say I have tried absolutely everything to create a supportive social circle. Unfortunately, in my experience, most of the (friendly) foreigners in Berlin have come here to party and be "artists" for a few months until their money runs out and they return home. Sadly I have yet to meet an honest to goodness genuine "friendly" Berliner.
Throughout the years I have researched and reached out several times to both foreigner & German "groups" with very little success. It's pointless to list all of the vast & varied things I have tried throughout the years or the job opportunities that have simply paid too little to be worth even the cost of the train tickets to get there.

So why not just leave?

I am isolated and honestly have no friends or family ties for any kind of support leaving me completely on my own with a 4 year old and absolutely zero financial savings in a country that is not my own, unhappily married to an emotionally abusive local (a divorce is most certainly possible but if I try to leave the country without my husband's written, notarized permission he can (& will) have me charged with international kidnapping thanks to the archaic laws governing the Hague Convention).
If anyone is in the Köpenick area it would be awesome to lend each other a friendly smile and some moral support.

Why don't you make a disposable tinychat room so you can meet online first and meet irl if you decide the person you're talking to is not a neo-nazi or whatever. Then after a time create a new room for those interested and keep creating new ones in case old ones get raided or infiltrated by undesired lurkers.

Hence, this parasytic, ugly idiot of mankind continues to exist. Unfortunately...

Hands down, Berlin has the ugliest women in Europe, wobbling along like a team of clumsy oxen with purple hair, nasty oily skin covered with zits (or leathery as a purse) and sagging monkey mouths (from too much booze), thick waists, vaginas that stink like roadkill, etc. Even the black and latina chicks are ugly--no hips, extreme prognathism, ashy skin, unibrows, doughy complexions, and so on. Asians? Not much better. If any of them look half-way decent they are usually arrogant and hostile beyond belief--in other words, ugly on the inside. What the fu-ck gives? So, I played some fun, innocent little PvP online games against some of my German "friends". (Tabletug to be precise - just google it). And since I have a pretty good eye for people around me, I noticed something which kind of took away the fun but maybe revealed a deeper truth about these folks to me: Since I've played it several times, I naturally got better at it, so I won the first few times. Then my friend got kind of annoyed, saying that the game isn't even fun. So I let him win a few times. Suddenly the game was enjoyable. Until I won again, then it started getting nasty; he tried distracting me and disturbing me in so many ways, until I didn't want to play anymore. Best part? He said only under one circumstance... and that is admitting to him that he won. The heck. I have played this game with friends from the States before and never have I seen anyone be so ridiculously competitive about something that is just supposed to be fun.

I know the feeling. Some Berliners and I played something called kakelake or something. It was their idea. I was a bit slow in the beginning to which they had an attitude of being superior and telling me things such as "in your face!", "you're slow like a grandma"... And I'm just like sitting there thinking:"wooow, it's just a silly little game and I'm not even winning and they are still being aggressive about it..." I did not enjoy it one bit even though I thought the game itself was pretty fun, pardon, could have been if played with the right people.

As much as I like the idea: no. Germany has won plenty of wars, if you just risk a look in any history book it can tell you that. Besides, even if it were true, French people would need to be even bigger douchbags, which they aren't. I do think the wars played their parts too, but even without them, their culture has been way too "progress" driven for centuries. That plus the general idea of "everyone fends for himself" which effectively takes away any hope for some unbiased harmless little fun without everyone taking it personally (of course they'd never admit that; that's what the beer is for)...

"The city of opportunities" Yes, let's just clarify that it only applies if: You're a) a workaholic, b) into brutal, ego-, and materialistic-driven competition, c) in possession of a lot of money, d) okay with pretty much selling your own grandmother for success, e) the kind of person who finds money to be reason enough to poop people constantly. Bonus: if you're very extroverted, loud, have a long range of self-destructive behaviors that nobody seems to call attention to -besides being "cool"-, anyway. None of these apply to you even remotely? Please save yourself, your health and your happiness and leave this stone-cold capitalistic hellhole of a city.
