I was looking for websites about why the Berlin tech scene sucks so much compared to other places. Instead I found this place, which incidentally explains why the Berlin tech scene sucks so much (tldr. it's the people). Keep up the good work guys.

It's cheap, but definitely not sexy unless you still into drugs and clubbing but that gets boring too eventually especially if you are going broke. I am trying to save up money to get out of here, but dude there are just way too many freelancers in my expertise here, and high supply of course drives prices down. Overtime I learned to be zen with Berliners' rudeness as life here for most is tough financially. Low income Americans have it harder, but at least they try to be friendly to strangers and remain optimistic.

FCUK it off, warmer friendly places like Spain are just as cheap to live as berlin and have just as much art, culture to offer as well as all of the other better things in life like the weather, food, people with personallity....

Great to visit this site now I moved, really hope the idiots on this planet create another hype and the creative industry moves somewhere else. Berlin and Germany really didnt deserve the media attention it got and still gets. Probably the most dissapointing, boring and depressing capital I have ever visited.

I'm quite certain no one lives in Berlin simply because it is "cheap". Especially those who are unable to leave due to circumstances beyond their control.

cheap place = cheap people = cheap jobs = cheap... not inexpensive, just plain cheap. Consider disposable income... if you have 20% of your income for doing what you want to do elsewhere in the world I would rather have 20% of Munich wages than 20% of Berlin's.

to be fair, the only way to have a better Berlin would be to employ a team of bulldozers. But I totally understand the group goals if you are stuck here and don't have the dosh to hire the dozers.

What was better 10 years ago? Everything! It was not so crowded, but whats more significant, the people were not such inhuman lookists, who feel themselves as the center of the universe. 10 years ago the people were more shy,but friendly, more caring about themselves and not so much about you. Iam afraid that berlin has become horrid since they made a hype of it. its the rich hipters and hipsteresses from wohle the world making it this bad. (in my opinion) these are the so cool, antisocial, inhuman, icecold people who like control so much.

Having lived here (as an "ausländer") for nearly 10 years I can honestly say that not a lot has changed at all. In my experience the local culture has always been anti-social, unfriendly and aggressive (compared to other parts of the world) and the racism & xenophobia have also been very prevalent and, of course, only worsened as more foreigners move here.

Watch the number on newcomers rise in the next couple of weeks here as the Berlin faces drop as well as the temperatures. Its full of trapped non germans there because their friends are trapped there and too weak to go back home or womewhere else and be an individual. Afraid that if they do they will be outside of "Popular circles". Life is much more than pooping clubs and Berlin has fornicate all else to offer than that.

For a change, I'd like to mention something else: While it's not the best way to "anonymously bond with people", I am very thankful for this website. I'd spent a large portion of my life feeling completely alone with all my views and troubles within this city, but it's partially SHOCKING to see how some people seem to have experienced things which I'd thought could only happen to me. Or maybe that something was wrong with me. There is a nice German word for this, in fact, I don't think I know an English equivalent that describes my experience with this website as well as it: Seelenbalsam.

This site has brought me much joy I would not have otherwise had living in Berlin. It helped me to laugh at the filth and attitudes where before I would internalize it all and run through many moods of dark colour.
I moved away a couple years ago but have to return twice a year and can honestly say that the journey there still darkens my mood more and more the closer I get and the unbearable lightness of being that envelops me as I board a departing flight at Tegel or Schoenefeld (still no Berlin International funnily enough) is better than sex.

Just the city limit sign while driving does not do the same as I know only Brandenburg lies beyond. Could start a whole new hater site based on Brandenburg.

Kudos to our benefactors
