Wow! The amount of bureaucracy it takes when leaving. They really don't want to let you go man
I have been questioning the point of working in Germany since years. I work in IT and I am single. I do earn close to 65k per year before taxes. When I deduct my cost of living each month, I am left with nearly 60€ budget per day. I own no car too. The point is, If I want to save some money, I have to give up on enjoying the life. No travelling, no hobbies, no eating out etc (Or I can do these very limitedly) If I decide to enjoy the life, I have to live from paycheck to paycheck. Let's say. I am determined to save money. The money I would be saving per year will be 11 - 12k which is not a great sum of money.
Initially, I was assuming that, the company I work for underpays me (which is somehow true). Then, I realized, 65k per year seems like a lot of money for Germans. I was like, WTF? How do these people live like this? Why do I have to rely on government for everything? Working in this country does not make any sense.
I am about to get the citizenship and I will be leaving for a country where I can enjoy live much more financially and socially.
I do agree with this. I work in a very low paid tier and have been able to save money but only by compromising life in general. No purchases no nothing. I have looked at IT jobs, but they are all so underpaid for the amount of work they want that I find it to not be worth it. 65K is nothing for an IT professional. The ratio between work for pay is terrible.
How much is 65k after taxes? Around 40 k? So basically 3.3k a month, I assume.
It's still a very good salary for Germany. Do you happen to live in Bavaria?
I remember when I lived in Berlin and meeting lots of blue-collar people who made 1800 a month after taxes doing backbreaking jobs. Imagine that.
For Germany I guess, but as prices of rentals go up. it gets tighter. but 40K is junior developer salary in secondary cities usually in the USA or UK say Birmingham UK or Atlanta. of course this varies. If you are not a Junior then 85-100K should be the median. Especially in a primary City and Capital city. agree that the cost of living is lower in Berlin. Still though property prices in terms of renting have raised 50%-100% and getting on the property ladder is impossible here. This country punishes workers. And rewards those on HartzIV who have no reason to be on HARTZIV. I can understand a social net for the sick, single households etc, the mentally ill, the homeless. but not for students and morons who have depression and stress from working 5 hours at their job. Germans are extremely lazy. Getting back to the point that in the end 40K netto is not great. Especially for the double pressure you work in. Makes steve jobs look like the worlds nicest boss.
It's not just Berlin. It's all of Germany. The people here are so mean spirited and only Happy when they are complaining and getting one over on a foreigner. Germans are such miserable pricks.
They love to be miserable, and they will make you like them over time. It's a very negative place unfortunately. And misery loves company. You can see there is no Hater page in Cityhater that is as filled up as this one and active. This is not a Nordic thing either, it's specifically a German thing. For them getting a one over is everything. It sucks. Get out when you can. They are very mean and selfish. This place will destroy you over time and make you one of them,
Nah it's completely a Nordic thing. I lived in Sweden, Finland and the UK before and they're all a miserable, sad bunch. Germans are similar, but at least German women are hotter than British ones, which makes things slightly more tolerable. But in general, I agree that living amongst the miserable, double faced Northern Europeans is a drag for people who come from life-loving countries.
The number of interesting people that I met throughout the years in Berlin is close to ZERO
There is guy on TikTok who dedicated his channel to germany and how pooping this country is. Hahaaa..
He probably has the biggest trauma of all of us.
I forgot how bad winter in this city actually is. It's the worst?!
I think a Jürgen florian Hurensohn is down voting things. I'm noticing a lot of single down votes over a small time on posts that would normally not get downvotes. Maybe we have a Jürgen florian Hurensohn spectator.
I would bet my butt on it...he is a self hating right wing german that found this site and thought to himself he would find like minded people here...this dumb idiot really thinks our problem with this idiot of a country are the immigrants...he IQ is to low to understand that exactly HE and his people is the problem why everyone HATES this country...
Berlin is filled with primitive, rude, uneducated Turks and Arabs. What's a good indoor playground with no noisy Arab or Turkish scum children?
Well jurgen... no matter what your Nazi butt thinks about those uneducated Turks or arabs...in contrast to your pale german ass, at least they wash their asses, they don't smell bad and they are not robotic like your hurensohn folk....
Jürgen florian hurensohn have a nice day
^ uneasy that is the correct word to describe how Germans make.me feel
These people are not normal and should not be treated as if they were. I knew it was a German from the headline alone.

The Airport Security Staff from Berlin are Hurensöhne.
Whenever people ask me, "where do you study?" and I reply "at Humboldt university", they reply with "woow, that's the best university in Berlin", "wow, that's a high ranked and prestige university" and so on. In reality guys, it's a complete hellhole and I'll tell you why. Do you think it's normal to have 5 different modules out of 7 total in your bachelor degree, which are taught by LGBT professors only? I swear I'm not lying. During one of the modules, the professor said out of nowhere that her favorite book is one, where a LGBT person is chasing a man with a chainsaw. During other modules, professors always never forget to mention or include some LGBT propaganda while teaching... and for some reason EVERYONE seems okay with it???
I even checked some articles from the Humboldt website, which said that the university is pushing for more LGBT friendly environment. SURE, I have nothing against it, but do you think it's normal to completely outweigh non-LGBT professors and include only LGBT ones??? The amount of bullsh*t propaganda I've heard in the past few semesters is enormous, thank God I'll be finishing my studies next semester... Now when I think about it, they're even more LGBT (non-professors) who are teaching some courses... in total out of 8 modules/courses, 6 are taught by LGBT professors, like wtf??? And no, I'm not studying gender studies or anything related to that. AND this is for 1 degree only... I can't imagine (and don't want to) how many LGBT professors are there in total...
THERE WERE 10 GERMAN BOMBERS IN THE AIR, THER WERE 10 GERMAN BOMBERS IN THE AIR, 10 GERMAN BOMBERS, 10 GERMAN BOMBERS 10 GERMAN BOMBERS IN THE AIR.... AND THE KAMAKAZI FROM JAPAN SHOT THEM DOWN, AND THE KAMAKAZI FROM JAPAN SHOT THEM DOWN, AND THE KAMAKAZI FROM JAPAN, KAMAKAZI FROM JAPAN SHOT THEM DOWN.
freaking Krautts are OUT !!! Get The Fuckk OUT Krautts ! GET OUT ! Thank You Japan ! Thank You Samurai !
Go into a späti and choose a red wine. Go to pay and ask: Kann ich mit Karte Zahlen? He replies „kannst du“ sarcastically. He is Albanian and younger than me by 10 years. Rude. Typical day to day experience in no-manners land. At work asked if I could sit in the room with the several in there and got berated by the Germans for being too polite and British. Replied „sorry forgot to be rude“
they just arent on that wavelength they wont get the subtleness. There is absolutely no expectation of politeness and in fact they probably think you are rude for not having the decency to get to the point and be frank about things. They see it as fake not to say things as they are and get things out into the open. It takes getting used to but ive got to the point where i almost cant be polite anymore which is bad
when you have been in berlin too long politeness and small talk just seem overly frilly and frivolous. Like whats you're problem get over yourself who do you think you are royalty? They want everyone down on that street level shouting at each other like yobbos so there is no hierarchy.
