This city makes you forget on how to make friends...
I remember the times when people just got together and were open to each other.
Here whenever you meet someone, either right away or soon, there will be some competition, jealousy, talks behind backs, something off...
As a woman, I always had/found my squad. That time of strong female friendship that can turn into a demon summoning if you piss one off. Girls unite type of thing.
Here females hate other females, funnily enough for such a “feminist” city.
Why are people so insecure and miserable? And how we cope with it?
It catches like the flu, I find myself at times anxious and distrustful.

I am suddenly obsessing over someone in Berlin. But I left the city. How do I stop waking up in the middle of the night, I’m in a different time zone. This has been going on for nearly two weeks now. I haven’t seen this person in months. Sorry BH I know you aren’t a therapist but I’m not sure if I should be overly concerned about this person. How is the situation there now ? Why is everyone STILL faking like living in Berlin is amazing especially now

As a side note I can’t tell if this person is mad at me for leaving Berlin, is stuck in Berlin, or doesn’t like me. Scientifically speaking if you start randomly thinking of someone it is just your mind obsessing, but for some reason I feel this person could be thinking of me as well. But to address it, they couldn’t, because they know how I feel about Berlin. So instead they just don’t write me and keep their feelings inside .

Try to do more of the things you love. Reading, binge watch a new silly show, practice hobbies and try meditation. It does help. There are apps like Calm where you can emerge into. Obsession is like drug addiction, a pain to get over it, but it is possible.
Also, always remind yourself that you cannot control or make other people see how you do, regardless if you are wrong or right. It doesn’t work. It has to come from them, fighting with it only will frustrate you and make you feel more desperate, helpless and drawn into.
Time is a great healer. Give yourself time, have patience and focus on yourself.
At the end of it, if this works out as you’d like, good, if not you will still be in a better place, grown and matured after you passed it.
Remember that in life all comes and goes. Bad times, but as well as the good times. It’s a never ending loop.
Hang in there and don’t try to control things out of your control

Be honest with yourself about what you are feeling, not what you are thinking. Write a list of what the feelings are behind the thoughts, and look at those feelings objectively and ask yourself if they are rational or irrational, it will make it easier for you to put the feelings into perspective. And you'll learn a lot about yourself by focusing on the feelings and naming them.

The economy is afloat By working peoples taxes, that is whose welfare you are paying. You are paying their welfare because german society is racist/xenophobic and won’t properly employ foreigners. Given that info, foreigners are recruited to Germany to pay taxes for the other foreigners who are stuck there on welfare.

It does not matter If you are able to speak German. They always switch to English when they hear your non German accent. What is the point of speaking German then ?

Also, If you want to apply for white collar jobs, your level of German is never sufficient for them. I can handle everything in German but they expect you to speak perfect German somehow. What I mean is, they don't even grant you chance. Everything is white or black to them.

Despite German's " YOU HAVE TO SPEAK GERMAN to work in Germany" hype on Internet, there are lots of jobs in English. So, this makes this place suitable stepping stone for better countries.

From the outside Germany seems like a great country with a good economy, high standards and a degree of safety but from living in Germany I discovered that all is not well in Germany and people in other countries will be surprised to find that most of the myths about Germany are not true.

Germany is bureaucratic and inefficient even chaotic, this is not something that people usually think about Germany but it is true and you only find out once you live in the country. The amount of paperwork for pointless government enquiries is on a new level. Scandinavia also has a lot of this type of government involvement in your life but there it is efficiently managed and quite hassle free. In Germany it is not hassle free and really difficult at times. Also nothing is friendly to foreigners, you really need to speak and read German in order to even get a school place for your child.

Then there is your work life which is blighted by high taxes and most Germans don’t have good salaries. When you get over how little you get at the end of the month then you have to deal with the normal German corporate culture which involves an aggressive top down constant complaining and nagging to all staff. Luckily I was in management but I was shocked how there is literally no encouragement to staff but constant pressure instead. This culture can be found in almost all companies, it is the rule not the exception.

Then I have a personal problem with the dire state of housing in Germany. Whether you are renting or buying the standard of housing is really shocking to me. Most houses are old and cheaply built with small windows and very little character. I have rented and bought in Germany each time I am even more shocked by the properties I see.

Then there is education, there really not enough international schools for expats in most areas and if your children go to a German School the standard of education and service is really laughable. Our kids were delighted to enter German School as the schools were way behind and they got marks just by being nice to the teacher. We found most of the staff to be disinterested in the children and totally lacking in knowledge in the subjects they were teaching. There are 3 types of schools and our children went to the highest level which is Gymnasium. There are two lower levels of school Haupt Schule and Real Schule, I dread to think what these schools are like.

My wife who is German but has worked abroad for many years begged me to move to another country for work after only one year of being back. Having been used to international standards she was shocked to see the standards in her own country.

After 3 years we have moved abroad again and the whole family is much happier. If you are an educated expat looking to move to an another country, Germany should be at the bottom of your list.

Berlin is not important, what's important today is whether the major superpower will be the communist dictatorship China aligned with Biden, or Trump who is aligned with the Democratic, free, West, and that includes Berlin, (pre-empting the moron who will post "what's that got to do with Berlin"..

3 of 8 people agree with this

Germans hate Trump because they know America is the biggest importer of German goods and is willing to start an ongoing trade war. Germans have for too long been accustomed to restricting imports with non-tariff barriers (TTIP revealed this perfectly as the Germans obsessed over American sausages called "Thueringer Bratwurst" being allowed to be sold in Germany, much like chlorinated chickens, etc.) and tariff barriers (the personal exemption for non-EU imports into Germany is 25 EUR - in the US it is 800 USD). Then don't even get me started on Germany's unwillingness to fund its own military and willingness to import oil from Russia which is known for shutting off the pipeline for political reasons (see Ukraine). If Germans were capable of long-term thinking they would see that an autonomous Germany with fair trade policies would benefit Germany. But once you've become addicted to free foreign direct investment under the guise of a cold war it's difficult to kick the habit.

On way or another, Germans are going to have to grow up. Either by paying their own way or by ultimately having to resist Chinese aggression. The Belt and Road initiative is slowly usurping all surrounding countries that have weak economies (even countries like Italy). The moment the EU begins to seriously collapse (only a matter of time once the UK is officially out and the world see that that EU mafia is bad for economic growth of developed nations) is when China gains a hold. German politicians know this. Lefty German politicians are basically controlled by China.

In Germany people seem to be shielded from such superfluous topics as economics, global politics and financial markets. Even the newspapers here refuse to cover anything relevant. Even Handelsblatt, once praised by Noam Chomsky as being one of the only European newspapers that accurately reported on world politics, has degenerated in quality. And most Germans actively refuse to learn anything about economics. Try this out: Next time someone mentions anything about business or economics (Tesla moving to Berlin, the FDP supporting opening stores on Sundays, etc.) just say "Oh my God, I don't ever want to hear about the free market again!" and note the looks of approval every German will give you.
