Not going to pretend that I am a flexitarian or carne-ovo-lacto-pescatarian, or whatever fancy word can be associated with someone who simply eats meat. I like my ramen, I like my bacon, I like a nice steak... I like a good chicken curry. Sue me. I don't eat immense amounts of it, especially in the summer. I usually eat salats and greens. I simply eat meat, at times. It is exhausting how much s**** you get from moralists vegans in Berlin. They scream of diversity and inclusion and then they want you to be like them or death to the infidels... Morons.

Being upset about vegans and imagining that their personal life choices are somehow infringing on your freedom is pathetic--more pathetic than vegans supposedly preaching about meat, although I've never really encountered that in real life and suspect it's one of those phantom menaces that mainly exist in the minds of the hyper-online anti-woke types. What you do or do not eat does not make you interesting.

Wow... OP here. The comments prove exactly my point. I don't give a crap that vegans want to be vegans and I would very much like them to not give a crap if I don't want to be a vegan. That's the principle of choice and diversity, isn't it. We don't have to "convert" anyone to any belief system.
Anyone can do whatever fits them. I am super glad you - personally - didn't have to deal with any moralists. I also don't think is right to cut open the throat of an animal and drain it from blood upside down while praying for it, but I don't see vegans standing against halal practices as animal cruelty (there are ways to raise and kill animals for human consumption that are not that brutal).

I agree with almost everything you wrote there, but I have you really ever in real life--not on the internet--been lectured by a vegan? I eat meat too and try to avoid cheap especially-cruelly produced meat as well, but I've never been lectured by a vegan and I know plenty of them. I don't eat Halal because I try not to support Muslim-owned businesses.

About five years after I moved to Berlin. In the beginning first 10 months when the "honeymoon" phase ended, I started to notice that something is quite off. But I thought it was maybe something wrong with me. I still put effort tho and wanted to "integrate" but despite my efforts, it was never enough because i obviously didnt go against myself and common sense. I quickly developed my despise towards them but i was still trapped. This lasted some time, so about after 5 years in Berlin, I switched my mindset to "Give zero fornicate about them from now on" and this has been incredibly liberating. I am just planning my exit strategy now and try as much as i can not to be like them.

Berlin was my home for 11 years. I've waited nearly five years to put these sentiments on this platform, fully aware that they'll likely dissipate and be forgotten as quickly as they appeared.

Finally, I broke free from that idiot city, that country I'd begun to perceive as a pit of despair. I had planned to pen this message on the day of my departure, but reservations about the notorious German karma lured me into thinking I might end up returning there, or perhaps my new home would be so dreadful that I'd long for the familiarity of Berlin. Thankfully, such is not the case.

If you're contemplating leaving Berlin and never looking back, yet you're hesitant, fearful of missing out on the next cool party, or losing the company of your toxic friends, or any other surface-level concerns - stop overthinking. Just do it. I assure you, a more fulfilling life awaits you beyond Germany. From the food to the weather, from social interactions to every minor aspect of day-to-day life, everything is infinitely better, and I don't say this lightly. As of now, it's been 49 days since I left, and each day I ask myself - what's there to go back to? What do I truly miss? Honestly, there's nothing, not a single element that incites a longing for the past. Leaving Berlin feels akin to stepping out of a thick fog.

Once the fog lifts, you'll see the true colours of the people - unfriendly, miserable, and depressed. Their energy infiltrates your persona, transforming you into a mirror image of their toxic selves. Their arrogance, their shallow and fake demeanour is nothing short of astonishing. Berlin has always been a sanctuary for those seeking to mask their insecurities. The only issue is, after hiding for so long, you unwittingly become a member of the Berghain Klaus Cult, donning black clothes that are too short for you, munching butts, and dancing robotically, convinced of your superior dance skills.
Everyone is ready to betray you, to gain a few "cool" points, or to prevent their toxic nature from being exposed, usually to their friends or family.

Culturally, Berlin and its inhabitants lack creativity, vision, and style, attempting to hide this void behind the façade of "modern art" or "modern techno". In reality, it's just a pretentious exhibit in Neukolln, where the shallow nature of the artists is masked with contrived descriptions. Techno music has been reduced to an incessant beat that ensnares the robotic cult members. The city is grey, endlessly so. Even on cloudless summer days, a simple glance at the faces around reveals the grey heaviness that pervades the city.

Despite claims of being woke, liberal, and vegan, there's an absolute absence of self-awareness, understanding, or spirituality in its residents. They profess spirituality, practicing yoga and consuming superfoods, yet the moment the yoga mat is rolled up, their superficiality resurfaces. In the end, after realizing their existence holds no significance beyond a club or a book reading event, or yet another mundane exhibition by a stagnant artist, the only path remaining is a descent into substance abuse, toxic relationships, and an unproductive life.

Since my departure, my life has undergone a complete transformation. I relish my meals, enjoy the beautiful weather, and engage in heartfelt conversations with warm, open individuals. My motivation has surged, the dark cloud of depression has lifted, and the oppressive weight I once carried around has evaporated. The mere thought of returning is the only source of my anxiety these days. The constant tension, the toxic relationships, have all vanished. Therefore, I reiterate - if you're contemplating leaving Berlin, if you're harboring any fear or hesitation, just do it. I assure you, it'll be the decision of a lifetime, and you'll never look back.

Really, I say this with a smile on my face as I just woke up - fornicate you Berlin, fornicate you Deutschland and every vagina in it.

I saw this post and gave it a thumbs up before I even read past the first paragraph. Because I just knew. Having read the whole thing now, I feel peaceful. I agree 100%. Out of Berlin myself, after as many years there as you. I am not sure I have healed from Berlin thus far as you have (Really Happy for you!). The thought I woke up to today was... Thank God I did spend 5 more years there. Because 5 more years of Berlin and I would still be in the same place (literally), just 5 more years would have passed. It's so easy and welcoming in Berlin to forget about about the passing of Time... all of a sudden you are 40, and only beginning to waking up and realizing that you have not moved one step further in your Life.

Btw, LOVE the point you made about stagnant artists. All the artists who live off their legacy from 30 years ago, growing the same poop over and over, being nothing more than barflies these days, complaining about the bars they hang out 5 times a week while having Drama with some 20 year old goth chick from Spain who only likes the dude's attention.

It's really a shitshow in Berlin... waking up from this nightmare is tough but worth it. Blood-sucking vampire is all that it is, this Berlin.

Sometimes I think about going back because it was easy... then I remember why I left in the first place. Just no.

In the 2023 survey from InterNations, Germany ranks 49th out of 53 countries for foreigners to get settled in, scoring particularly badly in categories such as making friends and local friendliness

Every year, InterNations - the world's largest community of foreign nationals - conducts the Expat Insider Survey, questioning more than 12,000 respondents about their experiences of living and working abroad in 53 destinations.

The survey is divided into five core sections which delve into the respondents' experiences in their respective countries of residence: Quality of Life, Ease of Settling In, Working Abroad, Personal Finance, and the Expat Essentials Index.

This year, Germany ranked in 49th place overall - making it one of the least attractive destinations for foreign nationals.

READ ALSO: Language and long waits: Why skilled workers are put off moving to Germany

It came bottom of the table in the Expat Essentials Index, which covers housing, administration, language, and digital life. Foreign nationals reported being particularly frustrated by the lack of digital infrastructure, the inflexible bureaucracy, and the tense situation in the housing market. More than half (56 percent) said they found it difficult to deal with the local bureaucracy while 58 percent reported struggling to find housing - 27 percent more than the global average.

The language barrier proved to be a particular issue for foreigners living in Germany, as half of those questioned said they found it difficult to live here without speaking the local language, compared to 32 percent globally, while 60 percent reported finding German difficult to learn.

Germany also scored badly in the Ease of Settling In Index, which looks into how foreign nationals perceive local friendliness, how easy it is to make friends and how welcome they feel.

Germans ranked among the bottom 5 least friendly local populations (50th) and three in ten respondents said that people in Germany are not friendly towards foreign residents and more than half reported finding it difficult to make local friends, with one in three saying that they do not feel at home in Germany.

The poor results in this subsection were not new to 2023 either: Germany has consistently ranked among the bottom 10 countries for finding friends and the friendliness of the locals over the last decade.

It's unsurprising, then, that foreigners in Germany are among the unhappiest worldwide, with Germany ranking here in 50th place.

Great job market and job security

But it's not all bad news for foreign nationals living in Germany.

Germany came in 15th place in the Working Abroad Index, with Germany’s job market (4th) and job security (5th) making it into the top 5 worldwide.

Germany also came in 18th place in the Quality of Life subsection, with foreign nationals appreciating both the infrastructure for cars and the easy availability of green goods and services (7th place for each).

For salary and quality of life, Germany also ranked in the top ten countries (in 9th place).

One Nigerian national living in Germany told the researchers: “I like that I have an opportunity here to grow in my career and to have a sustainable life overall.

A skinny little Syrian refugee nodded in agreement and wiped a tear from his eye, adding that after she/they had drained every snake in the woods, she/they would lie in the middle of the field looking up at the sky and then pour an entire bag of powdered sugar on her/their chests and grunt out a noise that transcended heaven and hell: "I.
