I agree fully. For me, it is more of the attitude of the people in this city. Fake, deceitful, and wicked. I lived in London before (American) moving here with my wife. I should have stayed in England instead of moving here. Everybody in London warned me not to come here and to just give London a chance. My wife ( she hates Berlin) who is German tried to talk me out of moving here. I should have listened to her and my friends in London before coming here. Been a couple times where I had to stop myself from beating the poop out of people here. They love to push people's buttons here I notice. Anyway, hopefully, next year I can move my family to Amsterdam. I hate this place and the people here with all my heart. Amsterdam is much better (though that is subjective, some may prefer Berlin), just a bit expensive at the moment. The city isn't that large and it's very easy to bike, so even living on the outskirts of the city isn't like living on the outskirts of Berlin, London, or Paris.
Germany and Germans are horrible in General...to the journalist: I understand why you moved from London, it is not a place to bring up kids and very expensive....I made the same "mistake" when i chose to come to Germany, but I learned a hard lesson: this country absolutely sucks, the ppl are horrible on every level and I will never return!

The Dutch are "nice AF" when they travel (because as has been stated about the Germans here, if they tried some of their poop in any other country, they'd get punched in the face) or if you are a tourist in NL spending money, and even then it's not guaranteed.
Amsterdam is very pretty in the centre, but the people are not dissimilar to their German neighbours. Rude, nosy, fake, judgemental, racist, and crass.
If you do go to Amsterdam, work for an international company, stay for a couple of years and enjoy the expat scene, which is not bad

How can such a big city be so boring? If you're not into techno and fetish clubs it can be extremely boring here. Despite all cafes and bars. The people here are so boring and lack humour. It's a bit too spread out to feel bustling and major industries are split up in other German cities. Most major industries are concentrated in London and Paris in those countries, so it attracts all sorts of people and those cities are denser. Berlin has national politics, startups, music, and art. The last 2 can be found in other German cities as well. Munich also has some startups and the more established tech companies.

Your experience is anecdotal. It could have easily been loud people from many other countries. They just happened to be American and you use that as an opportunity to hate on Americans, though the vast majority try their best to fit in or at least not stand out in a negative way. Unfortunately, there are people who just move to Berlin to party and don't care about those around them, they may even just be there on vacation, and that isn't unique to Americans.

I absolutely hate Berlin. I was raised in EE before immigrating to the States and I swear my idiot little hometown was more civilized 20 years ago than Berlin today. 1) Germans are sociopaths. My male neighbor gets broken by a male escort every time his wife takes his kid for a walk....and I have to literally lock myself in the kitchen, because they are loud as fornicate and you can hear it in every room of my apartment. So if you don't want to hear your ugly middle aged blob of a man have loud sex with men, that's your problem. 2) Speaking of German kids... Sociopaths can't raise kids. German kids are evil little midgets. They can do whatever and parents never attempt to discipline them. Worked his butt off, saved a whole bunch of projects the company was behind on and...got fired as soon as he did. When he confronted them about racism they just smirked. There are no laws protecting people against racial discrimination in Germany. Some old dude came up to us on the street, told us it's not right for the two of us to hang out. Some random dude took pictures of us at the gas station and even called the cops somehow assuming my friend stole his car. Nothing happened. Cops din't even come up to us, but WTF? Some female dog on a train decided to stand near us, then she turned around and asked my friend if he was going through her backpack... I mean seriously?
So these are definitely the things to consider when moving to Germany or accepting a job offer in Germany. A lot of German companies will poop you into coming over and doing the job then they'll tell you that you were on probation and dismiss you. Be careful. Read employment contracts carefully. If you pay for an intensive German course, make sure it's not a bunch of nonsense. Make sure your instructor is not 21 and you won't be put into a circle jerk with Ivan and Hui Sui and forced to jump around like little bunnies while reciting names of all the rivers and lakes in Germany. Overall, I think that Berlin would only work for promiscuous young people or infantile "artistic types" (people that doodle genitals and call it art, just so they can have an excuse not to work). If you like comfort - forget about it. If you need something, it's not as easy as getting in your car and driving to Walmart. You'l l be walking, taking trains and dragging heavy butt poop back to your place. Stores run out of poop on a regular, so if you don't get your shopping done early - tough luck. Pharmacies close early, barely have anything. Everything is closed on Sundays. If you were working late on Saturday or you get sick on a Saturday... guess what? Out of luck sucker! Also. Those 1910-1920 apartments are fancy, no doubt. Problem... they mold. They just don't have appropriate ventilation and insulation. It might be because they've been remodeled and a lot of large apartments have been turned into tiny shitters, so the ventilation is just no bueno... IDK But be prepared to discover you walls, your clothes, your shoes, furniture all covered in mold. I'm bleaching everything every week like theres no tomorrow. Mice is also an issue with older buildings. I haven't seen them inside the apt, but see them outside all the time. So yeah...

Thanks for the laugh. Look up any statistics on hate crimes committed per year in Germany and in the US. There are more hate crimes in Germany. And I don't even mean per capita. I will repeat that. There are more hate crimes committed in Germany, with a population of a modest 80 million people, than in the USA, with a population of over 300 million people.
