Why do so many relatively affluent Germans and especially Berliners refuse to regularly shower? I have never experienced this anywhere else in the world. People with pretty good jobs, making upwards of €60 K per year. Unfortunately I had to be in Berlin this weekend after leaving that dump 2 years ago...and what's changed? NOTHING, the people are still rude, stupid and the place is filthy with a nasty energy. The only real difference: it's now super expensive and more crowded than ever...making it even more difficult for all the unemployed artists to justify their existence...it's a city with zero redeeming factors...get out before you lose yourself in that hellhole...

A couple of years ago I had a car accident and because I suffered an injury on my spine, I am visibly shaking both hands. Now I live 5 years in Berlin and it is appalling, how people here on my disability respond. They're just stupid staring! Staring and staring and staring! Lots of local people mock me in the eyes without a problem. I think people here feel good about bullying someone. They're making me kidding at work though they know I'm after a car accident! Berliners are outrageous ignorants!
I was raised in Germany (although not born here), and I might be able to give an explanation (not an excuse though). German culture is based on mocking others. I have been mocked most of my life for very weird reasons (e.g. for making too many jokes, for thinking outside the box, for having a face that is too round). I thought it was only me and that there was something wrong with me, but it turned out that many people experience something like this. So, a lot of people are used to being mocked and only if they mock somebody back they feel a bit better. I realized that myself. Although I never mocked anyone (I have difficulties in seeing flaws in other people), I used to feel better when I treated other people badly. But that was because I was being treated badly. Only after spending time abroad I realized how sick it was and that it is not normal to constantly live in fear of being mocked. It's not an excuse. But just to explain that the problem is not single individuals - it is a culture of hating other people and trying to put them down.

Berlin is situated within the Island of very poor people. Saxony, Saxony Anhalt, Brandenburg, and Mecklenburg are really really poor. Some villages don't even have a bus anymore. Yet the skyscrapers are "cuddling" each other in Frankfurt and Cologne.
But that's one of the things you have to accept if you want to live in a capitalist country, which, apparently, most of the Berliners don't want to.
Just an FYI. The Berlin Senate (local and state parliament) is generally controlled by the center left party and the communist party (die Linke). It is an anti-capitalist city. The AfD getting 9% was an exception. 5 years ago this 9% went to the Pirate Party. Next time it will move to some new party or redistribute itself between die Linke and other fringe parties.
