Modern Germany should be understood as fundamentally religious, a collective based on rituals of state worship, repentance, sacrilege, exclusion etc. They don't know this, obviously, because they fancy themselves enlightened, which they associate with the most banal kind of "scientific" materialism, but it's true. These people are basically in a cult predicated on a set of semi-intelligible informal institutions such as submission to authority, the repetition of mediatised slogans, planned inefficiency in the name of "the environment" etc., as well as complete ideological uniformity in the guise of "diversity". In fact, this is one of the least "diverse" societies in world history with the possible exception of tribal communities and full-fledged dictatorships.

This really deserves more upvotes. The wisdom contained here takes years and years to glean.

"they fancy themselves enlightened, which they associate with the most banal kind of "scientific" materialism"

This line alone explains Germans better than I could in 5 pages. I was never religious or spiritual, but the material realm that Germans inhabit is definitely a colder, harder one than I have seen elsewhere. Emotions don't exist in Germany, nor does love or honor. In their place are intellectual justifications for any action that emulate a true emotion. Germans don't tell their children that they love them because they don't: they care for them (in the least emotional sense of the word "care") because they are legally obligated to. Germans aren't at the forefront of developing cyborgs and AI because creating more Germans is easier.

This country took my human side away from me.

I have not met any new person since 3 years, I have not been dating in this country for ages, I don't remember when was the last time, I have had chit chat with a person, I just don't have any desire to go out actually.

This country provides you job (with okayish pay ofc even tough you hold some high skills) and okayish quality of life in terms of purchasing power and travelling but It certainly does not satisfy the need of human interaction. I mean, you are basically seen as " a foreigner who comes to work here" nothing else

Can't wait to leave this country soon. Finally, I have had courage to take some steps into leaving this country

Dating is impossible here. I met some who O would have dated (non-germans) but where to go? There are no nice cafes or restaurants to go to for a date. It’s impossible to take a nice walk anywhere as the city is so ugly, so what to do?

I can only advise anyone not to learn the language and stay in their "expat bubble" if possible and eventually make their way out.

If you speak decent German like me, you will only get insights you wish you hadn't.

I can't remember how often I read the news like talking of a man killing his wife by 30 stabs and then throwing her out the window who will be facing 8 (!!) f** years in jail.

Remember this victim could be you or a loved one. No one here has any compassion or is crying for the victim. I only pray that me and my friends will never have to attend a courtroom facing a German boomer judge giving those ridiculous sentences with a diabolical smile. What the hell is wrong with this society.

Staying inside of expat bubble is the most decent thing you could do in this country as foreigner.

Just stay with your expat people in order to maintain your mental health

Anyone else has noticed how some of the foreigners who move to Germany tend to adapt the worst traits of German culture and internalize them? In my experience, eastern Europeans who spend some time in Germany tend to become "besserwisserisch" (arrogant, know-it-all, despotic, dogmatic, close-minded, delusional) or fixated on things that previously had no significance to them.

Totally. Everyone gets infected to become an jerk in Berlin. It ruins people and rids them of their better nature.

only eastern europeans? i’d say that most expats that try to “integrate” turn out like that. especially if there was a tendency in their native nature to begin with (french, english, and some more have no trouble adapting tbh)

Potato Flatmate: Did you get the receipt I left on the floor outside your door?

Me: What receipt?

Potato: You know? The 4.10€ for the cookies and candy from the supermarket, did you transfer it yet?

Me: You left a receipt on the floor outside my room, didn’t tell me about it and now expect me to send 4.10€ to your bank?

Potato: Yes exactly.

Me: Why did you not communicate to me?

Potato: I did, I left it on the floor outside your room.

Me: Well I threw it in the trash so I now have no proof of this 4,10€ you speak of...

Potato: What?!

Me: Learn to communicate potato.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I’m sick of the constant bad energy radiating from these people. I’m constantly in a argument with people here. My temper won’t allow disrespect from them so I’m always in conflict. They are so disrespectful, xenophobic, racist and rude. They are extremely boring people. Every time I have to have conversation with them I fall asleep. My energy is constantly low dealing with them. I’m depressed, bitter, angry, and have WORK PTSD from working with these jew-killing Germans.

Once you switch off the part of your brain that makes you show respect it's not so bad. Treat them just as rude as they treat you, normally these dimwits don't think past a one-line insult and short circuit when you insult them right back. Ogres.

One of the things I noticed quickly about Germany is that Germans all take themselves way too seriously. Even in casual settings, they are all always trying to be the smartest guy in the room. No chill, no self depreciation, just some kind of desperate need to appear smart.

Abother thing I noticed is that Germans hate themselves for WWII but that there is no real media support foe Germany criticism. America has its flaws, but at least there is widespread self reflection. Has there ever been a popular German documentary like Bowling for Columbine about Germany? Of course not - Germans hold firm to the belief that all evil has been excised and that modern day Germany is God's gift to the world (no irony here - they actually believe this).

its because German culture doesnt tolerate mistakes or imperfection. So they feel unless they are 100% right about anything they are a flawed human being. They are shamed into being like that its not easy for them to chill or they would be humiliated by the rest of the group

I asked one German lady to check on my cat while I’m on vacation at home.
She came to my apartment, saw some dirty cups and wrote me that they got moldy (I didn’t manage to wash them before Christmas and it was not moldy) and it’s disrespectful towards her and the cat….

I told her you’re crossing the line and leave the key. I don’t need your help. What a …. German!

Sorry guys, but compared to homes in the U.S. where I am from, every German apartment I have ever seen looks like total nightmarish shit. Raufasertapete, PVC flooring, dangling bare lightbulbs. Even people with decent salaries who are settled in (living somewhere 5+ years) live worse than college kids in dorms in the U.S.. And that's norlt even mentioning how tiny the apartments here are or the lack of soundproofing. Complete garbage and getting more expensive by the day. No idea how people are ok with this. If you plan on living in Berlin until you die, then I hope you don't mind having roommates when you're 80.
