One of the things I noticed quickly about Germany is that Germans all take themselves way too seriously. Even in casual settings, they are all always trying to be the smartest guy in the room. No chill, no self depreciation, just some kind of desperate need to appear smart.
Abother thing I noticed is that Germans hate themselves for WWII but that there is no real media support foe Germany criticism. America has its flaws, but at least there is widespread self reflection. Has there ever been a popular German documentary like Bowling for Columbine about Germany? Of course not - Germans hold firm to the belief that all evil has been excised and that modern day Germany is God's gift to the world (no irony here - they actually believe this).
its because German culture doesnt tolerate mistakes or imperfection. So they feel unless they are 100% right about anything they are a flawed human being. They are shamed into being like that its not easy for them to chill or they would be humiliated by the rest of the group
I left Berlin in November (2021) and I cannot be happier. From time to time I happen to read some Berlin-related news and I cannot bring myself to understand why I moved there. I wish you all a Berlin free 2022. Escape as soon as you can, you will experience happiness again!
LMAO on immoscout there is not even one single family home that's bigger than 100m2 for less than half a million. Who the hell bought up all the houses around berlin? 1w% of the city is on Harz4 benefits!!!
I asked one German lady to check on my cat while I’m on vacation at home.
She came to my apartment, saw some dirty cups and wrote me that they got moldy (I didn’t manage to wash them before Christmas and it was not moldy) and it’s disrespectful towards her and the cat….
I told her you’re crossing the line and leave the key. I don’t need your help. What a …. German!
funny i must have been here too long because i am not surprised..seems like the logical thing to do lol and she is doing it from a place of kindness/thinking it is the right thing. Germans like to make sure everyone else is living "correctly". They all have an inner policeman that is constantly watching you.
Is there any sure fire way yo get deported from Germany? I am white if that matters.
Sorry guys, but compared to homes in the U.S. where I am from, every German apartment I have ever seen looks like total nightmarish shit. Raufasertapete, PVC flooring, dangling bare lightbulbs. Even people with decent salaries who are settled in (living somewhere 5+ years) live worse than college kids in dorms in the U.S.. And that's norlt even mentioning how tiny the apartments here are or the lack of soundproofing. Complete garbage and getting more expensive by the day. No idea how people are ok with this. If you plan on living in Berlin until you die, then I hope you don't mind having roommates when you're 80.
I lived in Berlin for quite a while.
People were arrogant, deluded and miserable. I have never witnessed on so many occasions incidents of strangers showing utter contempt for each other. A rather hostile status quo.
In a culture where laughter and humour is absent other things manifest, this can be seen through what encapsulates Berlin most aptly ‘A love of fashion’.
One can ascertain very quickly that people take fashion and themselves very seriously and it is quite offensive to be constantly witnessing such unbridled vanity. Sort of feels a little like a breeding ground.
Upon communication it became obvious that ‘die deutschen volk’ were not at ease in conversation and even a small exchange would be telling enough for an astute person to notice; that the other was self consumed.
On learning from my experience I realised that many factors are at play: a cold climate, unappealing language, and a lack of nature.
The resulting cultural phenomena are a populous who are very formal, rigid and uptight. If you were to think of Berlin as a Bohemian and artistic Hub then you would be sorely mistaken. (Maybe 30 years ago). Think more along the lines of Life insurance, Rules and I hate to say it, Hipsters that cause revolt at an insidious level.
I also found the the Nazi vibe to be pervasive, and it sort of felt like a scene out of lord of the flies. I personally couldn’t believe that insanity could exist at such as scale.
I don’t envy anybody that lives in Berlin. If you want to spend your life being pre-consumed with things like Hype, and fashion accessories then please do go ahead, fulfil your ego. If you want to wear that red jumpsuit and backwards nike cap then you might just find yourself the coolest person there. However if you leave Berlin, then other people might find you weird.
And then on the other side you get te weirdo lefty brigade, who more conforming to their peers than the conservative people. I think these communist imbeciles need a dose of Milton Friedman. www.youtube.com/watch

LOL look at the Germans on comment section. They earn around 50k € per year and live modest life in Munich. This is their life style. In reality, they have to live like that to survive in the most strongest economy in the world LOL
Being self-aware is the step humanity took to become civilised. Before that they were just aware of their surroundings but not of themselves. Seems as if Germans are neither aware of their surroundings nor themselves. They clearly are way behind in the evolutionary process.
This is something that I have thought about. But, to be clear, not everyone’s capable of self -awareness. The problem I’ve encountered here is that I have never heard one German say, I have issues within myself I need to work on. Never heard anyone evaluate themselves. They are all perfect I guess.
F*CK THESE RETARD GERMANS! Just went to the supermarket and I felt like I went trough a war zone. Staff was stocking shelves everywhere, customers pushed trough with their shopping carts, someone behind me at the till couldn’t wait and shoved themselves to the self scanning till before I was able to pack my things and in the middle of all this some German c*unt pushed one of these trolleys into me so I pushed it back towards her. Hopefully I hurt her
Are all chermans Mentally ill , Retarded and autistic ?
I see a lot of posts here about how women in Berlin look. But excuse me, how do the men look? How do they dress? This is supposed to be a 1st world country and German men are arguably the most privileged group in this country. They dress either as if they were 10/20 years younger (parkas, 'cool' t-shirts and so on), or like wanna be gangsters or just like slobs. No style, no colors, no taste. Awful.
Hmm, well the way men dress here isn’t the issue in my opinion. The way someone is dress isn’t an indications of their maturity level or IQ. Ok, sometimes it is. You could have an older person who dress nice in suits and still be a backstabbing little weasel. And a 50 year old who still dress in hip-hop but will give you the shirt off his back if you ask. But, that’s in other places where I come from and where I have lived. Nope, I take it back, the men here are all fornicate boys, clowns, losers, wannabe gangsters, lames. Anyway, don’t get to bend out of shape about what they say about women because German women will betray in a two seconds if you are a foreigner.
Ever since I left Germany, I keep every single document that I get in the mail. Because I am paranoid of being yelled at and not given the customer service if I don't have the original copy. I realize how ridiculous this is, because nobody cares if you have the original copy anywhere except Germany. However, I just can't stop keeping meaningless records in case one day I need them.
I can't even file taxes for 2020 in germany because my accountant said I needed a paper which I clearly haven't been given by the government and don't have. Then I'll probably get penalized for not filing. But I did my abmeldung in 2020, so do you think it's ok? I am so paranoid of Germany, that I am afraid if I don't file my tax, I could be stopped at the border if I ever go. I also abandoned my apartment and mailed the keys back to the landlord, and am worried I could be arrested for that as well.
The level of paranoid I have of dealing with German officials is unreasonable, because in any other first world country this wouldn't be an issue. But it feels like the state controls everything in Germany and they are just out to punish foreigners. I am so happy I left that country.
I feel everything you’re saying! Since I arrived the paranoia increased drastically as I always feel as if everything I do is wrong. The kind of letters I get from German institutions are scary! Even for something banal they use language that frightens normal beings.
